We come with sad news, and it is that we have just reached, without knowing it, the end of an era because Ford has already produced its last Focus model after 27 years of history.
Millions of units sold, many more personal stories, family trips, first cars for students, workers and lovers of comfortable driving will know what we are talking about, the Ford Focus will no longer come out of the production line of the great blue oval.
The last unit was a white Focus, five door hatchback, and it left the factory last Friday. An image that symbolizes the change in the industry, but that as motor lovers hits us with a little pinch in the heart.
An ending that could be seen coming…
Ford had been warning for a long time that electrification would send the brand’s great models to the hole, in fact, in our country they stopped being sold in 2018, but in Europe the model that was winning was the electric one.
It all started in 1998, within the famous Ford 2000 plan, a car to unite global markets and it went well, very well. It became a worldwide success and there have been more than four generations that survived being practically the favorite in its segment.
The Focus
It worked for everything, it was practical but correct, with precise steering and a chassis that was a reference for the brand, it always responded.
Changes for Ford
For almost three decades, the Focus was the perfect middle point for the brand, it consumed little, it went well, it had a good price and it could be configured according to your tastes. Exactly what brands today seem to have forgotten while they push SUVs everywhere.
The Focus ST and RS
And of course… then came the sporty versions too, first the Focus ST which was firm, fast, with a deep sound and a more aggressive look. A serious toy for those looking for something more without going broke.
And then the Focus RS, turbo engine, all wheel drive, manual gearbox, rally soul… and versions like the RS500 that are now collector’s pieces. Ken Block turned it into a worldwide star with his gymkhanas, and that is where the legend began to be forged.
The RS left in 2020. The ST held on until September 2025. And now… there is nothing left.
The SUV changed everything
The market no longer wants compacts, it wants SUVs because that is what is fashionable, and Ford has also jumped on the SUV train, the Kuga or the Puma now occupy the space that belonged to the Focus, which has been left a bit behind, maybe like the little old man in the family.
Besides, the landscape has also changed a lot. Ford went from being the second largest manufacturer in Europe in 2015… to 12th place in 2024.
And the electrification?
Ford is fully immersed in its electric strategy and in its future the Focus does not fit, it does not match its priorities or its budget, in fact, the only model left available for sale is the Mustang.
Will the Focus come back someday?
Rumors are coming now, some say it could reinvent itself as an electric vehicle or a possible crossover with the Focus name, but for the moment there are no plans or official data, so, sadly, for now it is a goodbye.
The end
The end of the Focus is not just that Ford stops manufacturing a model, it is a symbol of the brand and above all a way to show where the industry is going, aiming higher, more electric, and for many, much less fun.
The Focus has left a huge legacy in the brand, goodbye forever, friend!
