Walmart is also closing its doors… but only today, so everyone can fully enjoy November 27, one of our big days! Thanksgiving is here and our last minute shopping turns into real chaos, all your cousins come, your mother-in-law, your siblings… and there is always something missing at the last minute.
Well, this year, just like every year, Walmart will remain closed this Thursday, November 27, 2025. And it is tradition, they have been doing it since 2020 because their employees also deserve to prepare their turkey calmly at home!
No mashed potatoes, no wine, no cranberry jam, today you will not be able to buy anything. But tomorrow everything will go back to normal, remember that we are in blessed Black Friday and they will be open for your shopping all day with regular hours.
A tradition
Walmart only closes two days a year, Christmas and Thanksgiving. And the CEO, John Furner, confirms that their employees also deserve to be with their families on these important days. Would you celebrate your Christmas knowing that your mom is working at a supermarket? Exactly.
It does not matter what is sold or not sold, that day the lights go off and the doors stay closed. And if you are missing something, you will have to use your imagination to replace it!
And Friday?
On Friday, November 28, at 6:00 in the morning, Walmart officially reopens its doors… and with all the power of Black Friday.
As every year, the most aggressive deals are expected in electronics, toys, Christmas decorations, home goods, and everything that makes people wake up early, get in line, or refresh the website like it is a competition, we love it!!!
Also, online deals started even earlier, since November 14, with priority access for Walmart+ members! If you want to avoid chaos in the store, your couch and your phone will be your best allies this Black Friday!
Normal hours the rest of the week
Except on Thursday, Walmart will operate with its usual schedule. Most stores will open from 6:00 to 23:00, although it is always good to check the app in case your local store has a different schedule.
If you are traveling during those days, better check the hours before showing up, because it might open or close at a different time…
It is already tradition
Many customers are against these stores closing on such important days, but we cannot forget that behind every checkout belt there are people, with family, wanting to enjoy and rest with them. If you can rest on this day, why not them?! Thanksgiving Day is for everyone!
And let’s be honest, we are not going to die from not being able to shop for one day, planning, my friend!
Other big retailers follow the same pattern
Less stress for employees, more order for shopping, and a push for online commerce, which grows every year, the other major retailers also follow the same pattern, closing on holidays and going full force with online shopping.
If you shop at Walmart, this is important
To make sure the closure does not surprise you, it is best to organize yourself a bit:
- Do your shopping before Thursday. Really, do not leave it for the last minute.
- Check your pantry a couple of days before: spices, aluminum foil, batteries, sauces… the typical things that always go missing.
- If you want deals, the online offers before Black Friday can save you (and avoid crowds).
- If you go on Friday, be prepared.
And if by any chance you absolutely need to buy something today, take a walk around the neighborhood in case there is a family store open… Good luck and happy Thanksgiving!
