Hyundai has just put itself in the crosshairs after learning that they have had to issue a massive recall affecting several of its most popular models. Imagine driving on a highway, trusting that your vehicle is a safe vehicle, and suddenly your car’s engine starts to lose power without warning you beforehand.

This defect is what Hyundai is facing. Find out what exactly is happening to the brand and what you should do if your vehicle is affected.

We are going to tell you all the details you need to know so that you can keep your vehicle safe on the roads.

Which are the affected models?

This recall involves 5,000 vehicles that were manufactured in Hyundai plants between 2017 and 2023 and are the following:

  • Genesis G70 (2017-2023).
  • Hyundai Kona N (2020-2023).
  • i30 Sedan N (2020-2023).

What is the engine problem?

It is located in the fuel control valve inside the high pressure pump. If this valve allows more fuel to enter than necessary, the engine will suddenly shut off and, worst of all, it will not warn you that it has shut off.

Has Hyundai made any statement on this matter?

The brand has decided to inspect all vehicles affected by this fault and replace, if necessary, the fuel pump of those affected free of charge.

If you have one of these Hyundai or Genesis, they will contact you with a notification indicating the steps to follow.

I don’t understand, why is it a risk?

Imagine that you are driving at 100 km/h, or 120 km/h and suddenly your car decides to turn off without you having time to react or position yourself on the right side of the road. Anyone could hit you from behind and end up suffering some very complicated and dangerous consequences for both of you. Remember, we all have to be as careful as possible on the roads because they are everyone’s responsibility.

What do I do if my vehicle is on the recall list?

The first thing is not to panic, it is a problem but the solution is already in place.

The second thing is to check using the VIN (which is your vehicle identification number) whether your car really belongs to this recall or not. This code is a little number that appears on the top of the windshield, or is found on your registration card, and is unique for each vehicle. So, once you enter it into the Department of Transport, you will be able to check whether or not your vehicle is included in a recall. The next step is easy: contact your Hyundai or Genesis dealer if they have not already contacted you. Remember that the inspection and repair are free.

The third piece of advice we can offer you is not to drive long distances until your car has been inspected. Try to move as little as possible with your car or use public transport until an expert inspects your engine.
