Australia is changing its car landscape like never before, and brands like MG, Haval and BYD are gaining ground on Australian roads, leaving aside the giant brands that we all know like Toyota and Ford, which have gone into a state of alert. What is happening in Australia? Below we tell you everything we know!
What is happening in Australia with Chinese brands?
A few years ago, in 2018, Chinese brands were almost non-existent and did not reach 1% of the new car market. Today, that figure has grown to 12.8%, making them one of the most important players on Australian roads… but the most incredible thing is that if the trend continues like this, it is expected that the Chinese market will occupy 40% of Australian vehicles before 2030!!
Why are they doing so well?
If you’re wondering how this is possible, there have been three clear tips that have led the Chinese market to dominate the Australian market and we’ll tell you about them below:
- They offer vehicles with the latest technology for much less money than many well-known brands.
- Innovation: they are betting heavily on electric vehicles at very competitive prices.
- They have a lot of variety, from family SUVs to compact cars, something for everyone!
And what about the traditional brands?
Many brands like Toyota, which has always been a favourite in Australia, could face very difficult times… they control at least 20% of the current market, but with so many new options and so many vehicles to look at and that attract attention, many buyers are choosing to try “something new” with Chinese brands.
From Kia Australia, Damien Meredith warns that traditional brands have two options at the moment: the classic renew or die. Either they adapt quickly to the Australian market or they will be left far behind. Although some could disappear from the market, others, like Kia, are determined to fight back by betting on better quality for the customers.
Is this good news for buyers?
Of course! Not for everyone, but for Australians, who will now have a much larger market to choose from for their next vehicle, so they can choose very high quality vehicles at prices that previously seemed impossible – it’s the market, my friend!
But there are also questions about the unknown. Will they be as durable as traditional brands?
But, we have to be realistic and see that these brands are gaining ground in the Australian landscape, and it will be the other brands
