We’re sure that with the following sentence you’ll know exactly what we’re talking about. What if we tell you “I see dead people”? The image of that child covered with a sheet saying these words that would go down in film history comes to mind… It’s been 25 years since these words were spoken by the young Haley Joel Osment, who surprised the world with his incredible performance in The Sixth Sense. But how much do we know about the filming of this movie? Now that time has passed and we’ve seen him in so many different roles, we know that nothing will be able to surpass the impact that this boy had in The Sixth Sense and above all, the ending with the biggest spoiler in film history!

Osment is now 36 years old and has sat down with Entertainment Weekly to discuss his experience filming this movie when he was only 11 years old.

Working with Bruce Willis

And for an 11-year-old boy, filming with big names in cinema like Bruce Willis must have been something incredible, in his own words “it was impressive because he was the first super famous person I worked with.”

Osment defines him as the ideal partner on a set and highlights his charisma, “I would come home after school and have messages from him on the answering machine, it was something incredible,” and he says that he still has those tapes saved because for him it was something incredible.

An epic ending.

We know that we don’t need to talk about the ending of this movie because it was etched in everyone’s retina (a spoiler 25 years later is still a spoiler??), but one thing we don’t know is that there were no leaks about the movie, and it was a very juicy ending that would have people spilling the beans, but absolutely no one said anything about the end of the plot, which made the impact much greater for all the people who saw it on the big screen, and which continues to surprise those who, even 25 years later, see it for the first time.

A legacy that still endures

The Sixth Sense was not only a turning point in the career of this young Osment who was starting out in the world of cinema (despite having already had a small role in ‘Forrest Gump’), but it also made him the second youngest nominee for the Oscars in the category of Best Supporting Actor, a record that still stands today!

And if you haven’t seen this film yet, it’s never too late, but you’re taking too long to see it. You can currently watch it on platforms like Disney+ where it continues to captivate new generations of viewers who will never be able to understand what the ending of this film meant for 2000s cinema.

And you, do you remember what you said the first time you saw this masterpiece?

Any recommendations similar to The Sixth Sense?

If you enjoyed this movie and you don’t know any other similar movies, we’re here to recommend some movies that are in the same line of it, and keep those unexpected twists and suspense that captivate so much.

The first movie we’re going to tell you about is “The Others” (2001) and “The Village” (2004), the first, directed by Amenábar and with a final twist that still has us thinking; and the second, directed by M. Night Shyamalan, mixes suspense and drama. Two very good options for a movie night.

The third that comes to mind is The Orphanage (2007) by J.A. Bayona and produced by Guillermo del Toro, mixing horror and drama, it can’t be missing from your movie checklist.

The Others (Hereditary) by Ari Aster (2018), a psychological horror that will keep you in suspense all the time. And finally, Shutter Island (2010), directed by Martin Scorsese and starring DiCaprio, combines mystery and suspense, another (more modern) classic that you can’t miss on your weekends at the movies.

Prepare a good bowl of popcorn, and enjoy the marathon!
