The key is to know what type of stains you have and what is the best method to remove them. Vinegar, baking soda and citric acid are some of the most effective, economical and ecological options. Keep reading and discover how to make cleaning the toilet a quick and easy task!
Before you start cleaning…
Make sure you have protective equipment such as gloves and even a mask, and open the bathroom windows so that if the product seems too strong, it can air out easily.
Remember to read the product labels because they can damage the stone your bathroom is made of, and don’t mix strange things! They can be lethal.
Method 1: for light stains and regular cleaning
One of the most popular and effective methods for removing stains, and you probably already know it, is through white vinegar and baking soda.
Steps:
- Put on gloves and pour white vinegar into the toilet.
- Add baking soda and let the mixture foam.
- Use a brush to scrub the walls of the toilet well.
- Leave it to act for 15 to 30 minutes.
- Flush the toilet to rinse and repeat if necessary.
The best thing about this method is that, in addition to being cheap, it helps to eliminate limescale, unpleasant odours and keep a toilet free of bacteria.
Method 2: for stubborn stains
If the stains are stubborn, citric acid may be the solution to all your problems. It is a natural ingredient that also dissolves mineral deposits without being toxic.
Steps:
- Sprinkle citric acid on the stains inside the toilet.
- Leave it for 30 minutes to an hour.
- Scrub with a brush to remove any residue.
- Flush the toilet and rinse well.
This alternative is more corrosive to dirt but is safe and environmentally friendly (much more so than commercial cleaners).
How often should we clean the toilet?
Ideally, at least once a week. Keep in mind that it is a place where there is a lot of bacteria accumulation (not only because of the possible stains that may be generated), so, ideally, at least once a week you should do a general cleaning of the bathroom.
Can I use bleach in the toilet?
Yes, but bleach is not always the best option for stains (yes, for disinfecting), but rust stains are best removed with vinegar. Remember that if you are going to use bleach you cannot mix it with ammonia.
What if the stain does not go away?
You can repeat both processes and leave it to act for longer. You can also try using a pumice stone, but you have to use it very carefully so that it does not scratch the porcelain in your bathroom.
What if I have a lot of rust stains?
Apply hot vinegar or a specific iron cleaner, it will be very clean.
What about moisture stains?
With white vinegar, just like in method 1, and if you see that moisture has lodged between the tile joints, use baking soda and scrape it off with a brush.
Keeping the toilet clean doesn’t have to be a complicated task, you’ve just seen that you can remove stains without harsh products and with minimal effort! Try these methods and you’ll see that cleaning the bathroom can be much easier than you imagine. Say goodbye to stains and enjoy a sparkling bathroom!
