It’s not that mosquitoes have a special preference for you, they’re just everywhere! But don’t worry, you’re not alone. These tiny insects are experts at ruining any summer afternoon, and a night’s sleep (why do they always want to sleep in our ears?).

And it’s not just about the itching! Besides being annoying and biting non-stop, mosquitoes can also transmit serious diseases like dengue or Zika.

But before you cover yourself in repellent, let us show you a natural and effective trick that you can try. And the best part? You probably already have all the ingredients at home

Mosquitoes and the problem of their proliferation

Mosquitoes may not be the most common insects in our homes, but, brace yourself, there are an estimated 3,500 different species of these little pests. Quite the nuisance!

They bite, attack, and sometimes force us to leave a place simply because there’s no room left on our skin for more bites. And by the way, did you know that mosquitoes choose their victims based on blood type?

Is dengue still present in America?

Yes, in both North and South America, health authorities have issued high alerts due to the presence of more than 3.5 million dengue cases and over 1,000 deaths in the Panamanian region.

That’s why official administrations are urging citizens to protect themselves and eliminate mosquitoes from their homes using insecticides, repellents, or electric mosquito rackets.

Is there any home remedy?

Of course! Simple, effective, and one of our favourites! You’ll only need two ingredients that you probably already have at home: lemon and cloves.

It may sound too simple, but the citric acid from the lemon and the aroma of cloves create an environment that’s pure torture for mosquitoes. And the best part? It’s super easy to make:

  1. Grab a lemon and cut it in half.
  2. Stick 7 to 8 cloves into each half.
  3. Place the halves in areas where you don’t want mosquitoes (If you put them near doors and windows, they won’t even come inside!)

It’s cheap, eco-friendly, makes your home smell great, and keeps mosquitoes away, what more could you ask for?

Are thre other home remedies?

Of course! There are plenty of natural alternatives that can help. You’ve probably heard of citronella or eucalyptus, both of which are sold as essential oils or even candles if you want a more decorative option. You can also keep basil or rosemary plants indoors, both are great natural mosquito repellents.

Some people swear by placing cups of vinegar and water near windows, claiming it helps keep mosquitoes away completely.

But we have an even better solution: tea tree oil! Its strong and intense scent acts as a powerful mosquito deterrent, and the best part? You don’t have to cover yourself in it! Just apply a small amount to your wrists and ankles, and mosquitoes won’t even think about coming near you.

What is tea tree oil?

Tea tree oil comes from a plant native to Australia and is used for almost everything. It has gained massive popularity in skincare, but it’s also a powerful antiseptic, antifungal, and natural deodorant!

And that’s not all, it also regulates oil production and repels lice and mosquitoes. Basically, it’s a must-have product for your home!

Yes, mosquitoes are annoying, but they play an important role in the food chain. And as you’ve seen, you don’t always need harsh chemicals to keep them away! With just a few simple steps, you can stay mosquito-free naturally. And if you do get bitten? Water, soap, and antiseptic, just don’t scratch, or it will only get worse!
