Walmart, the largest retail brand in the United States, is going through a slightly complicated moment, and well, receiving a recall notice for one of the products sold in your stores is not pleasant for anyone. In this case, Walmart has more than 4,700 stores across the country, and now it has been forced to update its recall page by including some items that could truly endanger the safety of those who use them, including a specific model of Bridgestone tires that could cause accidents.
We don’t want to overwhelm anyone reading this article, but it may serve as a reminder that even the biggest companies make mistakes and it’s necessary for them to stay alert so they can respond as quickly as possible and reverse the situation. Here’s the full story of Walmart and Bridgestone!
How many open recalls does Walmart have?
There have been several recalls that caught our attention, including issues with an Igloo water cooler (allegedly causing fingertip amputations) and Segway scooters due to fall hazards. But without a doubt, the one that stood out most is the tire recall.
What’s going on with the Bridgestone tires?
Bridgestone Americas Tire Operations (BATO) has issued an emergency recall for its R123 Ecopia tires, size 295/75R22.5. According to the official report, these tires were manufactured with incorrect alignment in their internal belts, and this is no small issue, as it can increase the likelihood of structural failure and, consequently, traffic accidents. According to the recall notice, the tires were made for use on commercial trailers and it is estimated that more than 1,100 defective units are still in circulation.
What will Bridgestone do about it?
Both Bridgestone and Walmart have done their part to address this problem and have announced that they will replace all affected tires free of charge. They have set up a customer service line so that consumers can report the issue and resolve it as soon as possible.
Commitment to consumer safety
Clearly, for Walmart, the company’s greatest asset is its customers, so they have stated they are working to block the sale of these products and remove any items affected by the alerts that are constantly being issued. The company maintains that they follow a transparent policy that complies with safety regulations to quickly detect potential flaws in their products, even once those products are already in the hands of consumers.
Let’s keep in mind that 90% of the population lives less than 10 miles from a Walmart store, since it is the most widespread retail chain across the country, so these alerts can have a massive reach. That’s why it’s important for the chain to be 100% committed to these types of recalls, because they can be deadly for many fellow citizens.
Other recently recalled products
The list of recalled products is not limited to tires. At the beginning of this article, we already gave a “spoiler” of some items, but among the latest alerts issued are:
- Nestlé Lean Cuisine and Stouffer’s: recalled due to the possibility of being contaminated with a wood-like material.
- Aiper Seagull Pro Robotic Pool Cleaner: this pool cleaning robot was recalled after fire and burn risks were detected.
- Segway Ninebot Max Scooters: models G30P and G30LP were recalled due to defects that could cause falls and serious injuries.
What can we do as consumers?
As consumers, there’s nothing we can do since we place our full trust in the products we’re buying. However, if you have any doubts, it’s always a good idea to check Walmart’s official recall page, especially if you purchased any of these items, even though they might not belong to the same batch or be affected.
That said, please, if you discover that you have any of the above-mentioned items at home, go directly to the store to contact customer service so they can offer you a quick solution.
