We’ve always heard that the most important thing for our body is to stay hydrated every day. It seems like a very easy daily goal to set, right? But when it comes down to it, we know that none of us actually drink the 2 litters of water that specialists recommend. Between work, meetings, grocery shopping, working out, and so many other activities we carefully plan and fit into our routines, by the end of the day we’re fully aware that we haven’t drunk enough water. We’ve got good news for you: you don’t need apps or exact measurements to reach this goal because we’ve got a very simple solution and we’ll tell you about it below.

The glass method

Created by an Italian nutritionist, Luca Cioffi, he shared with his followers on social media a very practical and intuitive way to drink water daily to reach the recommended goal of 2 litters. He called it the glass method but basically, it’s about setting a goal of drinking eight glasses of water per day. And he presents it as naturally as brushing your teeth or taking a shower.

What does the method consist of?

According to Cioffi, the key is not to wait until you’re thirsty (because that’s already dehydration, be careful with that!!!), but to assign each glass of water to a specific moment in the day, so that with practice, it becomes a habit and you’ll never have to worry about drinking water again.

And for that you don’t need measuring cups or anyone reminding you. It’s eight glasses of water that you need to spread throughout the day. For example, when you wake up, it’s recommended to drink a glass of water to reactivate your metabolism, well, there’s your first one!

How do we distribute the glasses of water?

Easy, we’ve already set when the first one will be, and we’ll also set when the last ones will be: two glasses of water during dinner. And now we have three. The other five we can distribute however we like, but our advice is to have one while you’re having breakfast or right after you finish, it’s a way to improve digestion.

The fifth glass you can drink during the morning, away from mealtimes, and the next two during lunch. Lastly, the eighth one we still have left can be drunk during the afternoon, when energy levels drop, so you can regain focus and give your best during those hours.

Careful! This is just a guideline. If you’re someone who drinks more water every day, you can drink as much as your body needs!

But won’t that make me go to the bathroom all the time?

This nutritionist reassures those who are afraid of spending the whole day in the bathroom, and that’s because when we distribute water intake regularly throughout the day, the body adapts and improves its absorption and elimination capacity, so you have nothing to worry about, you just need to create a routine.

The importance of drinking water

The best thing about this method is that it doesn’t force you to constantly think about staying hydrated, instead, you make water a part of your already established routine, and it ends up becoming an automatic habit.

Drinking water is essential for humans, we’re made mostly of liquid. It also improves digestion, our ability to concentrate, physical performance, and even sleep! We’re not trying to drink water just because it’s what we’re supposed to do, but to create a system that works and fits into our lives without complications or stress.
