Are you an owner of a Nissan Murano or Nissan Maxima? You should know there’s a class action lawsuit against Nissan company in the United States, and that you could receive up to $5,000. This is not the first time the company faces a class action lawsuit, this time people are complaining about CVT (continuously variable transmission) issues affecting the vehicles performance and making owners spend a lot of money on repairs. The company is willing to give vouchers to those who want a new Nissan or Infiniti vehicle.
In case you wanted to take part in this class action lawsuit, Top Class Actions platform has all the information. So, this is a chance for consumers to recover part of what they have spent. Let’s see more in detail about this class action lawsuit and how you can know whether you are eligible for this compensation.
Nissan vehicles issues
Nissan vehicle owners have been complaining about CVT (continuously variable transmission) issues on their Nissan Murano (2015 – 2018) and Nissan Maxima (2016 – 2018). This wasn’t a recent complaint, consumers have been communicating this situation to the company for several years. They had to deal with issues like vehicle’s poor performance, mechanical failures (most of them happened after the basic warranty had expired) and expensive repairs.
All of this led to a class action lawsuit against Nissan made by affected consumers, but the company hasn’t admitted yet to have made any mistake. The solution the company offered was to give consumers three options of compensation, mainly to avoid a trial.
Types of compensations
If you are one of those people who leased or owned one of the issued models, you could be eligible for one of the following compensations:
- Expand your warranty: if you still have the car and you haven’t made big repairs, Nissan will expand the transmission and other components’ warranty up to 7 years or 84,000 miles (whatever happens first). This will cover future failures the car would experience.
- Cash reimbursement: in case you have already paid for the CVT issue, you can apply for receiving the entire amount of money you spent. However, if the repairs were made at an unofficial repair shop, you will receive up to $5,000. Of course, you must show supporting documents to receive this reimbursement.
- $1,500 voucher: with this voucher you could buy a new Nissan or Infiniti car. I mean, if you were thinking about getting a new car, this is the perfect option. Be careful! Because it won’t be possible to receive both the cash reimbursement and the voucher, you have to choose the one that will benefit you the most.
Are you eligible for these compensations?
Not every Nissan vehicle owner can apply for these compensations, only the ones matching these requirements could do it:
- Being the current or former owner or renter of a Nissan Murano (models from 2015, 2016, 2017 or 2018) or a Nissan Maxima (models from 2016, 2017 or 2018).
- Your vehicle had a CVT.
- You bought it or rented it before the 4th of April of 2025.
The process to apply for them
First of all, you must make a claim and provide your personal information (name, address, etc.), your vehicle’s data (mode, VIN, year, etc.), proof of the repairs (invoices, receipts, service record) and what compensation you choose.
If you want to have more information about this or make the claim, you can visit the Top Class Actions website.
Save the date!
You have to do this process before the 3rd of July of 2025 if you want to receive compensation. It’s not that rare that affected people missed the deadline and couldn’t receive anything, although they were eligible to do so. For example, this happened with the agreement for data leakage of Enzo Biochem.
So, if this ever happens to you, you should fight for what’s yours and be informed about every step of the process. There will be more people like you and you could join forces.
