Neither Honda nor Mazda – Toyota dominates in 2025 and consolidates its position as the world’s best-selling brand for this reason

No more blindly taking your car to the repair shop every time the warning light comes on—learning to read the Check Engine light changes the way you take care of your car in the United States

Do you have a Ford Bronco Sport or Escape? If you do or know someone who has it, you should know what’s happening with these Ford models before it’s too late. Ford is recalling more than 694,000 vehicles due to a serious issue that could lead to engine fires. Even if your car seems to be running just fine, a small crack in a specific engine part could cause fuel to leak, and that leak could create a real safety risk.

This is not the first time the company issues a recall, so it has already started working on a fix, and they’ve shared which vehicles are affected and how they’re handling the situation. So, let’s see more in detail about this issue.

What’s the issue?

The issue involves a part called the fuel injector. This part has an important job: it sends gasoline into the engine so your car can operate. But in some of these vehicles, the fuel injector may crack or break. When that happens, gas can leak out.

If that gasoline leaks into the engine compartment—the area under the hood where the engine sits—and if that area is hot from running the engine or from the exhaust system, the leaking fuel can catch fire. That’s obviously very dangerous, which is why Ford is acting quickly to reduce the risk.

Which cars are being recalled?

The recall applies only to certain models and production years. Specifically, the affected vehicles are: Ford Bronco Sport models (2021-2024), and Ford Escape models (2020 and 2022).

However, this recall only includes vehicles with a 1.5-liter engine. If your vehicle has a different engine size, it’s probably not part of this recall. But, it’s recommended to check it, just in case.

When did this start?

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the company has been studying the problem for a while now, Ford started the investigation back in 2022. Since this year, Ford has issued three recalls related to this situation: in November 2022, in March 2024, and in March 2025.

What has Ford discovered  recently?

Between April and May 2025, the company continued its investigation. During this time, they found that corrosion—which can happen when metal parts are exposed to moisture, age, or road salt—might be causing the fuel injectors to crack.

They also found that eight vehicles had actually caught fire due to this issue. Out of those eight, six didn’t have the software update that’s meant to help catch problems early. That shows the software may play an important role in reducing risk.

Thankfully, there were no injuries in any of these cases, but the danger is real, and Ford wants to make sure it doesn’t happen again.

Ford’s solution

In July 2025, Ford’s internal review team decided to issue another recall. This time, they’re asking owners of certain vehicles to bring their cars in for a software update.

This update is completely free. It’s a temporary fix while Ford works on a permanent solution to stop the fuel injectors from cracking in the future.

How will you know if your car is affected?

If you’re one of the unlucky owners, Ford will contact you by sending two letters (very traditional):

  • The first letter will be mailed starting on August 18, 2025. It will explain the safety issue and tell you what to do.
  • The second letter will come later, once the final repair is ready and approved.

If you own a 2021–2024 Ford Bronco Sport or a 2020–2022 Ford Escape with a 1.5-liter engine, make sure to check your mail and look out for the first notice.

What you should do now

If you think your car might be affected, don’t wait. Take a few minutes to check the year, model, and engine size of your vehicle. Even if your car seems fine, it’s better to play it safe, especially with a fire risk involved.

If you have questions or want to check if your vehicle is included, call Ford Customer Service at 1-866-436-7332. Mention recall number 25S76, and they’ll help you find out what to do.
