Ford is launching new electric vehicles — here’s what we know. You’ve probably heard of this company — one of the most well-known names in the car industry. But now, the company is getting ready to take a big step into the world of electric vehicles.

The company just announced that it’s preparing a new line of EVs, and this could change the way it positions itself in a market that keeps growing year after year. The official announcement will happen on August 11, during an event organized by Ford in Kentucky, U.S. So, what exactly are they planning? Let’s take a look.

A big moment for the brand

According to Jim Farley, Ford’s CEO, this is a huge moment for the company. He even said it’s as big as the launch of the Model T — yeah, the one from 1908 that changed everything because regular people could finally afford a car.

Now, the company wants to do the same thing — but with electric vehicles. But, how will they stand out in the huge EVs market? The company will make them cheaper and easier to get, not just something for tech fans or luxury buyers.

A secret team has been working behind the scenes

In case you’re wondering who are the people behind all of this, the team is led by Alan Clarke, who used to work at Tesla (not bad, right?). But that’s not all, there are more people involved from Rivian, Apple, and Lucid Motors. Exactly, Ford knows what it’s doing by counting on these people and that says a lot about how serious this project is.

What is Ford actually launching?

So far, the only thing that’s been confirmed is a mid-size electric pickup truck, which is set to be released in 2027. But that’s not all. Ford says they’re planning to launch several types of vehicles, all with something they’re calling “personalized digital experiences.”

What does that mean? Honestly… we don’t know yet. No real details have been shared so far. But we’ll probably find out more on August 11 during the official reveal.

A bold move, but others are moving faster.

While Ford is aiming for 2027, some of its biggest competitors are already picking up speed:

  • Tesla is planning to roll out a more affordable Model Y by the end of 2025.
  • GM has announced the return of the Chevy Bolt in 2026.
  • And Slate Auto — a newcomer backed by Jeff Bezos — is gearing up to launch its own electric pickup by late 2026.

So while others are preparing launches within the next year or two, Ford is aiming for 2027. That could be a problem if buyers don’t want to wait that long.

Its EV division is losing money

Of course Ford is experiencing some issues, so let’s have a look at another detail that matters: the company’s EV division lost about $1.3 billion in the second quarter of 2025.

Models like the F-150 Lightning and Mustang Mach-E aren’t selling as expected. On top of that, the current political climate in the U.S. adds uncertainty. With Donald Trump back in office, clean energy and EV incentives are no longer a sure thing.

So while Ford is talking about big plans, they’re also facing a lot of pressure — both from the market and from politics.

So… should we be excited?

Ford says this will be a big shift. A fresh lineup. More affordable electric cars. A whole new approach. But right now, there’s a lot we still don’t know. And we’ll have to wait until 2027 to see the first results.

So yes, the announcement on August 11 could be the start of something important… But for now, it’s just talk — and the competition isn’t waiting.

Consumers want clean cars — but they also want them now. Not in three years. By the time Ford’s pickup hits the market, people might already be driving cheaper EVs from Tesla, GM, or startups we don’t even know about yet. So, should we be excited? Maybe. But Ford’s not just racing against other automakers anymore, they’re racing against time.
