Crazy theories about NASA. The National Aeronautics and Space Administration, is one of the best-known agencies in the world. It belongs to the United States government and was founded in 1958. Since then, it has been responsible for much of modern space exploration. I mean, who hasn’t heard about its many discoveries? It has sent astronauts to the Moon, launched probes to other planets, and carried out missions that are part of history. However, for decades there has been a group of people who do not believe everything NASA says.

Over time, theories have emerged claiming that some of its achievements are not real. So, let’s have a look at some of the most popular theories, shall we?

The Fake Moon Landings

One of the most famous theories is the claim that the Apollo mission moon landings — in 1969 and 1972 — were fake. According to supporters of this idea, the U.S. government invented the Moon landing to win the space race against the Soviet Union and avoid losing international prestige.

These people point to supposed evidence that, according to them, shows everything was filmed on Earth: they mention the sky without stars in the photos, flags that seem to move as if there were wind, the footprints left by the astronauts, and the way the lunar modules look. However, all these claims have been examined and refuted. Experts have scientifically explained why the photos and videos are authentic, and there is no real evidence to support the idea that it was all staged.

The Flat Earth Theory

Another well-known theory is the Flat Earth theory. Those who defend it claim that our planet is not a sphere that orbits the Sun, but a flat surface. According to them, there is a major conspiracy to hide the true shape of the Earth, and NASA would be a key part of that deception. The reality is that NASA has presented countless pieces of evidence showing that the Earth is round. These include images taken from space and live broadcasts from the International Space Station, in which the entire planet can be seen and its rotation on its axis can be observed.

The Hidden and Dangerous Planet

There are also theories about a hidden, dangerous planet. Within this belief, there are two main versions:

  • Planet Nine: This is a hypothesis about a planet that would be located in the farthest part of the solar system. Some people believe it could pose a risk to Earth in the future, as it could cause asteroids and comets to change course and head toward our planet. In 2016, an article in the New York Post mentioned this theory and shared a video claiming that this planet could become a threat.
  • Nibiru: This version comes from the book The Twelfth Planet, published in 1976 by Zecharia Sitchin. In this book, the author claims that certain ancient texts speak of a planet beyond Neptune that takes 3,600 years to orbit the Sun. According to the theory, Nibiru has been mentioned in several end-of-the-world predictions. However, none of these predictions have come true.

So, these theories…

NASA has spent more than six decades exploring space and sharing evidence of its discoveries and achievements. Despite this, there are always people who are suspicious and prefer to believe in stories that have no scientific support. These theories attract attention and circulate widely in the media and on social networks, but they have not been proven to be true. As you read about them, think about how you decide what to believe — and how important it is to look for reliable evidence before accepting a claim.
