Who hasn’t looked for a trick on the internet? Whether we want to get rid of insects, stains, or fix something, there’s always someone who knows a trick. That’s what we are offering today, several tips to avoid mold on the wall of your home in a very simple and fast way.
Mold appears when there is a lot of humidity and it can affect your health and damage your furniture, clothes and house structures. Luckily, there are many home-made tricks to get rid of it with no need of renovation work nor spending a lot of money. So, let’s get started with the first trick!
Trick 1: Air everyday
This is probably the simplest trick of them all, you just need to open the windows at least 5 or 10 minutes per day to help renew the air and reduce humidity in the rooms. Should you do this also on winter and rainy days? Of course, this is key to prevent mold formation.
In case you can’t open your windows, another option is to pull back the curtains or open the blinds to let the sunlight enter the rooms. Natural light has a dry effect and helps maintain walls cleaner.
Trick 2: Keep the bathroom dry
The bathroom is one of the places where there are more molds because of vapor accumulation after having a shower. This is very common to happen, but we have a trick to help you get rid of this:
- Open the window and the door after showering.
- Turn on a ceiling fan or exhaust fan to remove humidity.
- Use a squeegee on tiles, shower doors and the floor to remove the excess of water. After that, dry the surfaces with a clean towel.
Trick 3: Care of towels and bathmats
Mold is so annoying and it can even be found on humid textiles that are too long in the bathroom. The best trick to avoid this is to hang the towels and bathmats in a way they completely dry.
In case you have many towels, place a support out of the bathroom. For the bathmats, the best thing is to place them at the edge of the bath or on a towel rack so that they receive air on both sides.
Trick 4: Home-made products
Another trick, but this time more curious is to apply dish soap on glass windows. You just need a thin layer of this and you will have a barrier to avoid accumulation of water, which reduces the chances of having mold on frames and sills. One thing you must follow so that this product is effective is to reapply it every few days.
In case you are not sure about using dish soap, you can also use white vinegar on every joint and corner where you see mold. This will help you get rid of this and disinfect the surface.
Trick 5: Control humidity on clothes
Some people hang out the clothes inside their houses (could be raining or for whatever reason) and this increases the humidity of the environment. If you can’t stop doing this, you can use a humidifier in each room where you normally hang out the clothes. If the room is very small, a very useful trick is to use humidity absorbents that you can buy at supermarkets (they work pretty well in closets or shelfs).
Trick 6: Air closets
Mold can also appear on closets and, as a consequence, your clothes and shoes will be ruined. How could you stop this? Let’s see:
- Leave the doors open for some hours per day.
- Use bags or containers that can absorb humidity.
- Keep the closet organized because messy attracts humidity and makes it difficult to detect mold before it’s too late.
Trick 7: Use fans and air conditioning
Even if you can’t open the windows, a regular fan can help move the air and avoid accumulation of humidity. In winter, it could be a great idea to reverse the direction of your ceiling fan to redistribute warm air and keep the room dry. Many air conditioners also come with a dehumidifier mode. This trick is particularly useful in hot and humid summer months.
Now you know what to do when it comes to mold at home. I hope all these tricks are helpful and you don’t have to deal anymore with this annoying situation.
