Ford seems to be subscribed to the NHTSA newsletter, and yes, ladies and gentlemen, they are facing another recall, this time it affects almost half a million cars facing another blow: almost half a million cars that have turned out to have defective brakes.

As we say, it is almost 500,000 vehicles that present this defect and no entity wants anyone to get hurt.

What is the recall about?

Apparently, the fault is in a brake hose that over time can crack and cause fluid leaks that compromise braking capacity. Although yes, the warning light comes on when the fluid level gets too low… But nobody wants to take that risk.

Which models are affected

The problem is located in the rear flexible brake hose. According to the NHTSA, it can deteriorate with use and start leaking fluid. The result? A brake pedal that sinks more than it should and a braking distance that increases just when it is most needed. The least one expects when braking is that the car responds.

The models involved are Ford Edge manufactured between 2015 and 2018 and Lincoln MKX from 2016 to 2018. In total, we are talking about about 499,129 vehicles. Almost half a million. It is not an isolated fault, it is a widespread problem that Ford will have to solve on a large scale.

What is Ford going to do about it?

They will notify owners.. yes, but not immediately. They will start sending the notifications next month (yep), and the definitive repair… will not be ready until April 2026… Until then, we just have to wait, we cannot do anything. Of course, they recommend that if anyone notices something strange when braking, contact the dealership or customer service asap so they can speed up the process.

And in the meantime, what? That’s the worse part… There are no specific instructions. Just that kind of “watch just in case”. No temporary solutions or official preventive inspections. A little worrying, to be honest.

More problems for Ford: it is not an isolated case

This is not the only recall the brand is dealing with right now. There are several open fronts:

  • More than 100,000 Mustangs have problems with exterior lights. The module that controls them can get wet and stop working.
  • Another 100,900 Ford Rangers are being recalled because their side airbags might not deploy if the impact occurs against the B-pillar.

So yes, Ford is having some complicated months in terms of reliability. The recalls are piling up and starting to leave a mark on its reputation.

And now, what?

The brake failure is serious. Not only because of the number of vehicles involved, but because the solution will take more than a year to arrive. Driver safety should be at the center of everything, and this time Ford is running late.

The question is inevitable: with so many problems chained together, how is Ford going to regain the trust of its customers? Because one thing is clear: when people step on the brake, they expect the car to respond. Not to think twice.
