The FAA issues an urgent alert to airlines due to space debris generated by SpaceX launches, forcing changes to flight paths in the United States

No more ignoring IRS envelopes in January—tax season 2026 is upon us, and your refund is at stake

No natural gas or propane heating—this is the system that drives up bills the most in the United States, according to NEADA

Cash App is in trouble, and if at any point you received a text message inviting you to join or download the app (without asking for it, of course), there’s money waiting for you.

A class action lawsuit has been filed, and they have agreed to pay 12.5 million dollars to “forget about” the fact that (just maybe) they sent unauthorized promotional messages to thousands of people in the state of Washington.

The settlement still needs final approval from a court, but if it’s confirmed, affected users will automatically receive compensation ranging from 88 to 147 dollars. Money!!

What happened

It all started with Cash App’s referral feature. Users could invite friends and both would earn extra money, but many messages were sent without the recipient’s permission, in other words, thousands of users became promoters without wanting to!

And all their contacts received automatic messages like “Your friend invited you to use Cash App” but no one had authorized that!!

And of course, the law got involved because that system violated the Commercial Electronic Mail Act (CEMA) and the Consumer Protection Act (CPA) of the state of Washington.

The truth is that no one should receive promotional messages without having requested them, so the result is that Cash App (owned by Block Inc.) has agreed to pay a large sum of money to avoid a trial and worse consequences.

Who can receive the money

This settlement only applies to residents of the state of Washington who:

  • Received a text message from Cash App (referral or promotion) between November 14, 2019, and August 7, 2025.
  • Did not give consent to receive that type of message.
  • Are the owner or regular user of the number that received the message.

If you meet those conditions, you can file your claim before October 27, 2025, hurry up!!

How to file your claim (it’s quick and free)

  • Go to the official site www.BottomsTextSettlement.com
  • Fill out the form. They’ll ask for your name, phone number, and address, and you’ll need to check a box confirming that you didn’t give Cash App permission to send you those messages.
  • Send your claim online or by mail to:

Bottoms v. Block Settlement Administrator

P.O. Box 2631

Baton Rouge, LA 70821

If you have questions, write to info@BottomsTextSettlement.com or call 877-540-7545.

How much money you could receive

It’s still uncertain, but approximately between 88 and 147 dollars per affected person, and payments are expected at the end of the year once the court finally approves the settlement.

Who led the lawsuit

The case, called Bottoms v. Block Inc., was led by two consumer protection law firms:

  • Terrell Marshall Law Group PLLC, with attorneys Beth E. Terrell, Jennifer Rust Murray, and Eden B. Nordby.
  • Berger Montague PC, represented by Sophia M. Rios and Michelle Drake.

Cash App, on the other hand, was represented by the law firm Perkins Coie LLP, led by Cody W. S. Harris and Tana B. Glass.

What this settlement means for users

It means that no company is bigger than users’ rights, no matter how much authorized marketing they manage.

They can’t send invitations and promotions “on your behalf”; there must be consent (as in absolutely every industry). And since this happened in Washington, which has some of the strictest privacy laws in the country, it also serves as a warning to the rest of the industry: not everything goes.

And no, we know 100 dollars won’t change your life, but it proves that your privacy (and your peace of mind) have real value. Surely next time they’ll think twice before sending unwanted messages! In the meantime, claim it if you can!
