Amazon has issued a recall of 100,000 mattresses due to deadly fire risk. Yes, just as you read, mattresses at risk of catching fire. The alert has been issued by the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) and has affected 100,000 mattresses from the Cravan brand. No victims have been reported yet, but the danger is there and many people could be injured or even killed.

These mattresses were sold through Amazon.com between July 2022 and June 2024, and the manufacturer has admitted that these products do not meet the federal flammability standards, specifically those that regulate resistance to open flames.

Product recall details

As we mentioned, the affected Crayan Mattresses were sold exclusively through amazon.com between July 2022 and June 2024, and several sizes are affected: twin, full, queen and king, in 10- and 12-inch thickness versions.

What should buyers do?

The company itself has asked consumers to stop using the mattresses immediately. The return process requires the user to mark the mattress with the word “Recalled” in large letters on the white top panel and send a photo as proof to the manufacturer’s official email: crayan_service@hotmail.com. After certifying its disposal, consumers will receive a full refund.

Where were they sold and how much did they cost?

These Crayan brand mattresses were manufactured in Japan and sold exclusively on Amazon, at prices ranging from $100 to $220. They were sold in compressed boxes and had sewn white labels with fiber content information, size and the code “WG/P Foundation.”

No incidents so far… but high risk

Although no fires or injuries have been reported so far, this alert is not something to ignore… The fact that these products reached the market without passing the minimum safety checks reveals a worrying gap in the verification chain, even on platforms as large as Amazon.

Amazon under scrutiny… again

This is not the first time that products sold on Amazon have been recalled due to safety failures. The platform has been criticized in the past for allowing third parties to sell products that do not meet legal standards. Even so, the company usually acts quickly once authorities issue an alert.

What does the regulation say?

In the United States, the law requires mattresses to pass specific flammability tests, especially under direct flame exposure. If a mattress does not withstand these tests, it can catch fire in seconds, becoming a lethal risk, especially while people sleep…

Key information: mattress data

The recall affects all variants of Crayan Mattresses that match the following characteristics:

  • Sizes: twin, full, queen and king
  • Thickness: 10 and 12 inches
  • Sales period: July 2022 – June 2024
  • Platform: Amazon
  • Price: between $100 and $220
  • Identification: sewn white label on the side

What now?

Amazon has become the go-to store for millions of people… but it doesn’t always sell products that meet the required safety standards, not even those coming from well-known brands.

Several defective or dangerous products have been detected, like in this case with the mattresses, because Amazon does not physically inspect each item… so this new recall puts the spotlight on the real safety of the products. In this case, more than 100,000 lives could have been burned alive because the product sold didn’t have the necessary safety measures. If you bought one of these mattresses, don’t take the risk and follow the return protocol, your house, your life and everything could be at risk.
