The city of Los Angeles must say goodbye to one of its most popular restaurants: Birdie G’s. After 6 years of history, flavors, and community, the iconic restaurant in Santa Monica led by chef Jeremy Fox, has announced that it will definitely close its doors on December 31, 2025. Since the moment Birdie G’s started, it stood out in the Los Angeles culinary scene because of its unique style. The restaurant combined American cuisine with Jewish and European influences, creating a menu that won critics and customers’ hearts. With the passage of time, it became an iconic place in Santa Monica, so let’s see why this popular restaurant is closing.

A restaurant with history and heart

The origin of the restaurant came from chef Jeremy Fox who wanted to pay homage to his family: “Birdie” is the name of his daughter, and the “G” honors his grandmother Gladys. This personal connection gave the restaurant a unique and emotional identity that set it apart.

Since the beginning, Birdie G’s was known for its local ingredients and dishes combining comfort and sophistication. What’s more, the environment reminded of the classic ‘’supper clubs’’, with a warm and cozy spirit. Among its popular creations we found: matzo ball soup with carrot miso and lamb a la Saless with crispy rice and Persian spices. These dishes reflect the creativity and the mix of cultures that made Birdie G’ one of the most respected restaurants in Santa Monica and Los Angeles.

The closure

Despite the initial success, Birdie G’s had to face many difficulties. In just 8 months after opening, we experienced the COVID-19 pandemic which hit the entire culinary industry so bad. Like many restaurants in Los Angeles, Birdie G’s suffered the lack of staff, strikes, and even fires.

Another important issue was the lack of parking access because the restaurant could never use the Bergamot Station parking lot, which made clients’ experience so difficult. What’s more, the promised improvements in infrastructure of the area, like a hotel and better transport options, never came true.

So, all of this generated an economic and structural pressure that made it impossible to maintain the restaurant open in the long term.

Last chance to enjoy Birdie G’s

Even though the closure is confirmed, Birdie G’s wants to say goodbye in a special way: in December, before shutting down, the restaurant will organize a special edition of its famous ‘’8 Nights’’ dinner series. This event, inspired by Hanukkah, became one of the most expected in the culinary calendar in Los Angeles.

For this last edition, guest chefs from around the entire country will join Birdie G’s’ team to create an unforgettable experience. Jeremy Fox has promised that this farewell will be unique and he encourages people to visit the restaurant  for the last time before it’s too late.

Birdie G’s’ legacy

Birdie G’s became a true example of strength and creativity in the culinary world: for the community in Santa Monica, its closure is a big loss for the many people who enjoyed eating there and the Rustic Canyon group of restaurants, which Birdie G’s was part of.

The chef Jeremy Fox expressed his deep gratitude to the clients and the team that accompanied him for 6 years in Los Angeles. Even though the restaurant will close in its current location, he left a door open to Birdie G’s comeback in a different place in the future. Imagine your favorite place closes, what would you do? It’s a sad moment when you find the perfect place to eat and one day you can’t go because it doesn’t exist anymore.
