The electric vehicle market is evolving quite fast, but so much so that thinking that just by sitting down to check Facebook for a while, our battery will be full is something that seems like something out of a movie. And not only that, but the autonomy allows you to travel hundreds of kilometres without having to stop again. It is not a dream, nor an episode of any Netflix series, it is reality

Imagine that you enter a charging station, plug in your car and, by the time you finish checking the messages on your phone, it is ready to travel hundreds of kilometres! No, it is not a futuristic dream, but a reality that China has just made possible.

The Asian giant has developed a battery that promises to charge in just 10 minutes and offer a range of up to 600 miles (965 km)!! What does this revolutionary invention bring? We will tell you here!

Why is this battery special?

The key to this breakthrough is in the factories of CATL, a Chinese company that is developing this battery that they have called “Shenxing Plus.” This battery uses lithium iron phosphate (LFP) chemistry, which allows it to improve energy density without increasing size or weight.

The IEA (International Energy Agency) has praised the advances presented by this battery, and currently, the maximum autonomy of an electric vehicle is around 400 km without recharging, so, if we talk about the Shenxing Plus, it is a revolution in the sector.

And not only that, they have implemented other types of innovations that eliminate dead space inside the battery, increasing the amount of energy stored, as if they had found a way to fit more litters of gasoline in the same tank, but in an electric version!

What makes it different from other batteries?

Of course, when it promises “ultra-fast charging” it delivers! Unlike others, this ultra-fast charging is and supposedly will charge the battery to 80% in less than 10 minutes!

In addition, it has a slower degradation than traditional batteries, so it would not have to be changed so often and it would not lose power. It’s quite a discovery, isn’t it?

Who is leading the EV market?

Of course, this advance has not been the work of fate or a stroke of luck, it is the result of years of development and investment in the sector in the Chinese country. China dominates the production of key minerals to form these batteries (such as lithium, nickel and graphite), it was just a matter of time before they jumped into the market with their new battery and became the leader in this sector. According to data from the International Energy Agency (IEA), more than 90% of battery-grade graphite and 77% of rare grounds come from China!!!

It was clear that then, the control of market materials was going to be marked by the Asian giant and this is what has made China become the largest producer of electric vehicles in the world. The figures highlight that the Chinese market has reached that six out of ten cars that will be sold in 2023 were purchased by Chinese users!!

This battery has yet to be marketed and truly fulfil its function and be useful for everyday use, but if one thing has been made clear, it is that the electric sector is fighting hard to match and surpass the combustion market. The path is already being ploughed, and it will be the global market that will have to adapt in order not to be left behind. Are we ready for this new revolution?
