A national recall alert has just been issued for a product sold at Costco and Sam’s Club, a snack that poses health risks because it contains metal fragments inside!!! So far, no injuries have been reported, but it is better not to wait, and the government has asked consumers to check whether they have the product at home and act as soon as possible to avoid accidents.
Which product is being recalled?
The recall affects a Korean style barbecue pork jerky. It is estimated that at least 900,000 kilos of jerky are involved. As you can see, it is a very common snack in shopping carts and it was also sold in large bags.
Labeled as Golden Island, from LSI Inc., based in South Dakota, it is grilled pork jerky with a Korean barbecue recipe.
How was the problem discovered?
Everything started when several consumers reported that they had found pieces of metal inside the product, and that is when all the alarms went off. An investigation began and authorities confirmed that the failure was in a conveyor belt used during production. The Food Safety and Inspection Service of the Department of Agriculture (USDA) activated the recall of this product.
Why is it a risk?
Can you imagine eating something you love and finding metal inside? Even though no one has been injured so far, ingesting metal fragments can cause internal cuts, damage to teeth, or digestive problems, especially in children and older adults.
That is why the recommendation is clear, do not consume it under any circumstances, even if the package is intact, smells fine, and does not seem to have anything wrong.
What do health authorities say?
Federal agencies insist that the recall is preventive, precisely to avoid something serious from happening. They also recommend that anyone who believes they may have experienced discomfort after consuming the product consult a health professional in case metal fragments could still be in their body.
How do you know if you have the product at home?
The snack was sold in large plastic bags, typical of Costco and Sam’s Club. It has best by dates ranging from late 2025 to September 2026.
Carefully check the package information and look for the USDA inspection seal, which helps identify whether it is part of the recalled lot.
Where was it sold?
Across the entire United States, which is why the alert is nationwide and not limited to a specific state or region. If you usually buy this type of snack at big box stores, it is best to check whether you have it.
What do you need to do right now?
-
Do not eat it
-
Do not try it “just to see how it is”
-
Throw it away or return it to the store
Costco and Sam’s Club usually offer full refunds in these cases, even without a receipt. The priority is safety.
This type of recall is common, although not usually because of metal inside, but when it affects widely consumed foods the impact is much greater. That is why it is important to pay attention to official alerts and check your pantry. Remember that if you have this product at home, you should not eat it.
