Happy Thanksgiving Day! Today is a big day in our country, and as always we end up with last minute shopping, like every year. But, just like every year, Costco has confirmed that this November 27, 2025 all its stores will remain closed, and that is the reason. Today is Thanksgiving, and it is for everyone.
So, if you forgot the butter, the wine, or that pie you were craving, you better ask your neighbor because Costco will not be open. And you cannot act surprised because they are always very strict about the holidays when they close, and being realistic, Thanksgiving is one of the most important ones! Do not be dramatic because tomorrow they will open normally in case you really forgot something and you have the chance to buy it at the last minute, but today, Costco workers will be, like you, preparing the turkey with their families!
Costco keeps its tradition
Costco closes only a few times a year, but when it closes, it really closes, doors down, lights off, and not even a gas station open. Thanksgiving is added to its usual list, where New Year’s Day, July 4th, Memorial Day, Labor Day, Easter Sunday, and Christmas are also included.
So, on this day there is no exception and it is not something new that they close. You have to plan your shopping ahead…
The key day is not the 27th… it is the 26th
If you need to buy something, the 28th everything will be back to normal, and even if you could not set your table perfectly (because of your oversight, of course) you can serve reheated food and whatever you find the next day.
Costco is the favorite stop
Everyone ends up at Costco buying for dinner and that is because they have absolutely everything… and in XXL size. You know those uncles who eat until they burst? Well, Costco is the place where you buy more and spend less. Also, the huge variety of products in their stores… it is wonderful.
But if you did not plan ahead, as we said, there will be no mashed potatoes or cranberry sauce you can buy in the country (at least in a Costco), no emergency escape.
Do not want to cook? Costco solves it
Maybe you are reading this too late, but if you do not feel like cooking, Costco has the best options because this year they have again released their Complete Gourmet Thanksgiving Turkey Dinner for eight people, ready to heat and serve. Avoid drama… go to shopping
If you are already at the last minute and forgot half the list, here are some tips. Even though Costco will not open today, you can consider a gourmet dinner (the kind where they serve very little but very tasty food) with whatever you have at home…
Maybe there are other stores that will open, not the big chains, so forget about Walmart and similar ones because they have the same schedule as Costco. But you can look for smaller or regional supermarkets like Kroger, Meijer, Whole Foods or similar ones that might have reduced hours until 1 pm and could end up being your lifesaver. Time to walk around the neighborhood!
No closure today should catch you by surprise, but as always, there are forgetful people everywhere. Remember that today is Thanksgiving for you, but also for the millions of workers who work face to face with the public in these stores, they also deserve their day off, right?!
So, if you are missing some food, substitute it, ask a relative… or skip it! And enjoy the day!
