If there are some cartoons that have been with us for years, practically in all our moods, those have been The Simpsons, which with their thousands of adventures and everyday scenes, have made a reflection of the whole society in their chapters. Don’t worry! They’re not leaving yet, but the most fun and popular game we’ve ever had about them is, The Simpsons: Tapped Out. A game we’ve been playing for over a decade!
Goodbyes are never easy, and even less so when it’s something that has been present in our lives for so long, but EA has made the decision to shut down its servers and with them the cities we built in it. We tell you what we know about this game and what’s next for The Simpsons franchise in the world of video games!
Who are The Simpsons?
Don’t worry, we don’t think you’ve been living under a rock for the past 35 years, but it’s one of the most iconic and long-running television series in history. Premiering in 1989 and created by Matt Groening, it’s a satire series depicting the daily life of an average American family. Don’t you know the names Bart, Marge, Homer, Lisa and Maggie? Well, there are more than 750 episodes! You’re late to catch up!
And what was the game about?
The Simpsons: Tapped Out was a city-building game about Springfield, but you could also complete missions and events inspired by the series. It came out in 2012 and has been a gold mine for EA over the years, because there were also in-app purchases to expand the city, and users loved being able to customize their own city. But, with the news of the closure, there are many people who have been left “orphaned” by the game, imagine, more than 10 years playing this game!
Why did it close if it was so popular?
Despite its success in the early years, it had been losing popularity in recent years… There was still a loyal base of players who logged in every day to complete their daily missions, but the high cost of performance had made EA wonder if it was really worth it, and, with the accounts in hand, the closure was imminent.

What did the community think about?
Forums and networks have been imbued with a nostalgic tone, it’s been many years creating these cities, and forums like Reddit were filled with screenshots of the players’ cities, remembering the hours playing this game. For many, it was their daily routine, waking up, and playing for a while while they had breakfast, collecting their money, sending some character to work…
But, this farewell had a sweet ending, many players decided to organize a collective mission: sending all the players on 24-hour missions just before the servers closed.
“It feels very strange knowing that I will never be able to see my city again” commented a user on the social network X.
The closure of this game leaves a huge void in the hearts of many fans, but they will have to settle for seeing its screenshots. Who knows, they might make another similar game soon that will fill those voids?
