The mini-heart attack that our body gives us when we think we have lost our wallet and we can’t find it. Our wallet is a small extension of ourselves in which we carry the essentials for our day to day. But do we get the most out of our wallets?

10 essential things that you should always carry in your wallet

We leave you a list of 10 essential things that you should always carry in your wallet and that can get you out of more than one tight spot.

  1. Identification document: essential so that you can identify yourself in some way when you are away from home, whether it is a driver’s license, a state ID or a student card, it will be essential for any procedure you have to carry out, from buying alcohol to accessing certain buildings.
  2. Credit cards: you don’t need to carry them all, but at least, if you have more than one, carry two with you in your wallet, you will always have the backup of the other in case one does not work
  3. Debit card: you can use it to access your bank funds directly and to make purchases.
  4. Emergency contact information in case something happens to you – a piece of paper or card with the phone numbers and names of your emergency contacts, as well as your own information about your blood type or allergies, so that if something happens to you, doctors can act quickly.
  5. Cash – Even though it is very fashionable to pay with cash, it is always useful to have some cash in your wallet. It is not necessary to carry large amounts of money, but have about $80 in bills (some people recommend carrying up to $300, but a little cash will be enough).
  1. Transportation card: If you live in a big city or have to use public transportation to get to work or see your family, this card will be important so you don’t have to buy a disposable card every time you use the subway or bus.
  2. Emergency medical information: It’s essential to carry a card with your physical condition so that doctors can act if something happens to you.
  3. Band-Aids: A small band-aid doesn’t take up much space and can be very useful if you get a cut or blister until you can properly treat the wound.
  4. Membership cards: like Costco or Sam’s Club coupon cards, so you have them handy in case you need to go shopping!
  5. A portable phone charger, the small ones that can get you out of a tight spot in an emergency (but make sure you have it charged before you leave the house!

Other things we can recommend are condoms, safety pins, a spare key, passport-sized photos, a copy of your ID, a pen, your business card (you never know who might be interested), your health insurance card, a list of your medications, and even a lucky charm!

How to choose a good wallet?

It must have three basic characteristics (in addition to a style that suits you): choose a suitable material that is resistant (such as genuine leather or resistant nylon fabric). A practical size that allows you to carry everything you need, but that is not especially large so that it is not uncomfortable and finally that it is functional and has good internal organization. Another feature that you can take into account is that it has a security closure to make everything much safer.

Before buying a wallet, answer the following questions:

  • What do you need to carry daily? Do you prefer a compact design or one with more space?
  • Do you care about RFID security?
  • Is the material resistant and durable?

Nowadays, all your cards can also be included in the Wallet section of your mobile phone, so if one day you go out without a wallet or lose it, you can access them or cancel them. Our wallets are a world apart!
