Starlink, tremble because Amazon Leo is coming, a new satellite internet that has stood up to Musk’s already very famous internet network.

Amazon Leo has its own global connectivity system and has been preparing for years under the name Project Kuiper, and it is no longer an experiment, the company already has more than 150 satellites in orbit, closed agreements in Latin America and three service plans that promise up to 1 Gbps speed.

They are not coming to test, they are coming to compete directly with Starlink, and they also promise easy installation, antennas that adjust themselves and a very good infrastructure that could change how half the world connects.

Amazon Leo

Amazon wants to enter global connectivity fully and Amazon Leo is its door to this world, fast internet, stable and with low latency (even in areas where it is difficult for fiber optics to reach). For this they already have everything, they have the financial, technological and logistical plan, what else do they need?

As of today they already have 153 satellites working, and their first customers in Latin America are already ready to plug in.

How is the installation?

According to what they say, “plug and play”, meaning that even the most clueless person in your building will be able to connect it. The antenna orients itself, you don’t have to calibrate anything or fight with an app. It is ideal for rural areas where there is no connection at all.

Three speed levels

Amazon Leo will offer three terminals, each designed for a type of user:

  • Nano: 100 Mbps
  • Pro: 400 Mbps
  • Ultra: 1 Gbps

They are not only aiming to compete with Starlink… they want to cover more types of users from minute one.

And in Latin America…

Amazon closed agreements with DIRECTV Latin America and Sky Brasil. That is, the operators that already know the terrain will be the ones responsible for selling and distributing the service. This network will reach Mexico, Argentina, Chile, Colombia, Peru, Ecuador, Uruguay and Brazil.

What do they promise for the region?

  • Speeds of up to 1 Gbps
  • Latency close to fiber
  • And coverage for places where today, honestly, internet arrives when it feels like it.

With more than 3,200 satellites planned and an investment of more than 10,000 million dollars, Amazon makes it clear that this is not a pilot project.

Theories, doubts

As always when the skies fill with satellites, the doubts begin, there are people wondering if Amazon and SpaceX are in a race to control the sky, monitor communications or, in more creative versions, influence the climate (the thing about planes and chemtrails).

Nothing proven, of course here we are not going to support conspiracy theories, but we already know how the internet works if two billionaires launch thousands of satellites, imagination takes the highway…

And let’s admit it, seeing Bezos and Musk competing for low orbit has a gossip touch that feeds any conspiracy theory, but they are simply standing up to Starlink, a change of direction we could say.

More competition = better options

Thus, users could benefit from more adjusted prices, better speeds and real coverage for areas forgotten by the big operators.

When does it start?

There is no exact date, but Amazon has already opened official registration and is accelerating launches, so the most likely thing is that 2026 will be key to launching its satellites.
