Have you ever thought about which are the ugliest cars the automotive industry has ever produced? Surely one comes to mind as soon as you read this, but some of the ugliest cars in history became legends precisely because of that. For causing eye pain and lots of “uh, what is that!?” That said, even if they are ugly, maybe what we should look at is what is inside, right?! Here comes the ranking!
The Stout Scarab
Imagine that this went on sale in 1932. A very long car that was inspired by art deco, they said it was elegant, a giant beetle that looked more like an appliance on wheels than a car.
But careful, because the Stout Scarab was ahead of its time, many modern cars would wish they had drawn as much attention as this one did! Its interior was like a living room, the seats rotated, it had folding tables… the grandfather of the big minivans. But this car had a problem, it cost 5,000 dollars, which at the time was a fortune, the equivalent of about 100,000 dollars today, and it was only available to the closest friends of the inventor William B. Stout.
Fiat Multipla
If I had to name one, it would be this one. There is no uglier car ever created. If you grew up in the late 90s, you surely remember it. Those two level headlights that we never really knew why they were there, this car did not care whether you liked it or not, and it showed, but it was impossible to ignore. Inside, six seats and a supposed comfort that surprised more than one person. It was too ugly.
BMW Isetta
The Isetta was not ugly, it was cute. It was a microcar, literally, ridiculously small, if you were taller than 1.60 meters you had to stick your legs out the window. You have probably been in houses with a washing machine bigger than this car, but for some reason it was a total success in postwar Europe. It reached a top speed of 75 km/h and more than 160,000 units were sold.
Nissan S-Cargo
In the late 80s, Nissan did not have very good taste and decided to release this “snail” car. It was literally a snail, that was the joke. Inspired by the Citroën 2CV and playing with the word “escargot”.
Being completely honest, it was not pretty, and thankfully only about 10,000 units were produced between 1981 and 1991. There is not much more to say, it was strange.
Pontiac Aztek
What can we say about this car. Tom Peters, who would later create the Corvette C7, did not have his best day. They wanted to draw attention and created a car that nobody liked. That “four eyes” design, the squared shapes of the body… We do not want to offend anyone, but what a disaster of a car. That said, it became famous again after appearing in Breaking Bad. That is what a viral image can do.
Citroën Ami 6
We do not have much more to say. It is an ugly car and they placed the headlights too high, right?
Reliant Robin
What can we tell you. It is like when you ask your nephew to draw a dinosaur. No wonder people laughed at you if you drove one of these. That said, in Great Britain it became famous because you could drive it with a motorcycle license.
Nissan Cube
A box, literally. It was designed for younger people. Who would want to drive that when the back opened like a fridge?!
Aston Martin Lagonda Shooting Brake
Produced between 1974 and 1990, it stood out for a futuristic design, although we would have to see what they expected the future to look like back then. About this car we can only say that it looks like a hearse, and we do not like it.
Tesla Cybertruck
If you thought this monster was going to escape the ranking, you were wrong. It may have a lot of technology and whatever you want, but it is not pretty. And the price, even less so.
