It’s official—the U.S. government has issued a nationwide recall of products at Costco and Sam’s Club, and here’s what you should do if you bought them

Since the beginning of time and since laws have existed, there have been people who have tried to break them. The same thing happens between drivers and speed cameras. Does that sound familiar? It’s like an eternal battle between drivers and speed cameras, and it has made many drivers show their ingenuity by using methods that no one would have thought of to avoid fines. One of the most striking has started to go viral on social media and it is the anti-radar sticker. You’ve probably heard of it; it’s an adhesive sheet that makes your license plate invisible to traffic cameras. But… what can happen if we use one of these?

What is a radar?

We are talking about systems that the authorities use to control the speed at which vehicles circulate on streets and roads with the aim of improving road safety for all users. It also works in a very simple way, it has sensors that detect (by bouncing off a traffic sign) how fast the vehicle is going. If the driver exceeds the speed allowed in that section, he will have to dress up because the radar will take a photo that will automatically generate a fine! And also, radars may not be fixed or not be notified, and no, “anti-radar” stickers will not be of any use to you soon because they are prohibited.

What are anti-radar stickers?

These are special stickers that are placed over the numbers and letters of the license plate. At first glance, the license plate looks normal and does not raise any suspicion. However, when the radar takes the photo with its flash, the sticker reflects the light and hides the characters, making the image completely illegible.

This means that the system cannot identify the vehicle and therefore cannot penalize the driver for exceeding the speed limits.

But… does it work?

Whether it works or not shouldn’t be our job to tell you, however, we will tell you something about this type of sticker and that is that its effectiveness will depend on the type of radar you come across. Fixed and mobile radars do use conventional flashes (like the one you have on your mobile or camera), so it is possible that you can fool the security forces in this way, but be careful because not all radars are conventional, and those that use more novel technologies such as infrared could still make your fine visible because the effectiveness of the sticker would be reduced, and be careful! If someone catches you, you are exposed to a fine. In addition, the authorities are increasingly alert to this type of deception. In some countries, traffic police have begun to use extra cameras to detect irregularities in license plates before they are caught by the radar.

Is it legal?

Obviously not!!! If radar is a method to avoid accidents and keep everyone safe, how can a method to avoid getting caught be legal! Also, if an agent discovers that you have manipulated or altered your license plate, you could be committing a crime that will make you empty your wallet of up to $1,000!! And depending on the intention and use, it could be considered a major crime, so be very careful about doing stupid things because it can cost you a lot of money.

Is it worth the risk?

Of course not, many drivers want to avoid traffic fines without realising that the only way to avoid fines is to behave well on the road and pay attention to the signs you find on the roads. Radars are not only designed to fine, but to prevent accidents, so drive responsibly, do not commit illegal acts!
