Jeep has issued a recall of more than 300,000 vehicles due to an issue related to the battery, which has caused many concerns among owners and people reading the news. Recalls may sound complex, but they are actually a way to protect drivers.

Thanks to this article, those people who may be lost about recalls will finally better understand what it means and how to know if their vehicles are affected. So, let’s get started!

Why do recalls exist?

A recall happens when a car company finds a problem in some vehicles that could be dangerous. No matter what the problem is: it can be small, like a software error that can be fixed with an update, or bigger, like a fault in the engine or battery.

The purpose of a recall is always the same: to keep drivers and everyone on the road safe.

Who decides which vehicles need a recall?

Sometimes, the same company that manufactures the vehicles finds out the issue and decides to issue the recall. However, other times, when many drivers report the same failure, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) takes over. So, the process is as follows:

  • The NHTSA receives complaints from drivers and keeps them in a database.
  • If the same complaint appears many times for the same model, the agency opens an investigation.
  • The investigation goes through several phases: Screening, analysis, investigation, and recall management.
  • A recall is announced when the investigation proves that the vehicles pose a real safety risk.

Owners don’t have to pay to fix their cars because the brand covers every cost.

300,000 vehicles recall

More than 300,000 Jeeps have been recalled after finding out a battery issue in two very popular models from the brand. What was the exact issue? Well, according to the official report, some batteries can have damages inside the battery cells. This combined with other factors that happen inside the battery, may cause a fire (although the cases might be just a few). This is why Jeep thought the recall was necessary to avoid any risks.

In total, 320,000 Jeeps were included in the recall, more specifically:

  • Jeep Grand Cherokee (2022–2026): 91,844 vehicles
  • Jeep Wrangler (2020–2025): 228,221 vehicles

Is your Jeep affected?

To know this, you can go to the NHTSA official website and use your Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) to verify if your vehicle is part of the recall. You should know that the official letters will be sent on December 2 of this year.

It’s also important to know that if your Jeep is part of the 24V-720 or 23V-787 recalls, it will automatically be included in this new recall because the issue is the same.

Other recent Jeep recalls

This year, the brand has experienced more important recalls related to different issues. Let’s see some examples:

Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer (2022-2024): a recall was announced because a small exterior piece called the “quarter window trim” could detach while driving. If this happens, it can become a hazard for other vehicles.

Jeep Wrangler 4xe plug-in hybrid: More than 24,000 vehicles were recalled due to a software error caused by an over-the-air update. This glitch can lead to a sudden loss of power, which is dangerous for the driver and everyone else on the road. Owners will receive their official letters between November 25 and November 26.

So…

If you own one of the affected Jeep models, make sure to check your VIN and watch for the official notification. As we mentioned before, you shouldn’t worry about spending a lot of money because the repair is free. So, your vehicle will remain safe to drive.
