32 years after this film hit the big screen, it’s still the talk of the town, and Jurassic Park has been a major film reference since 1993, when Steven Spielberg decided to bring the story of these cloned dinosaurs from fossil DNA to the big screen. Three decades later, the saga continues to evolve and now they are going to present Jurassic World Rebirth, a new Jurassic World film that has aroused expectations… and detractors.

The premiere is scheduled for July 2, 2025, and although there is still some time before it hits theatres, the first trailer has already generated divided opinions among fans. Some celebrate the return to the saga’s roots, others criticize that the franchise continues to repeat the same mistakes of previous films. Do you want to know more?

Jurassic World Rebirth: back to the known?

The original screenwriter of Jurassic Park, David Koepp, returns in this instalment to try to reconnect with the essence of the first film. Despite the fact that in 2022 director Colin Trevorrow stated that Jurassic Park was “unfranchisable”, the saga continues to explore new ways to rewrite its history. Jurassic World Rebirth introduces a new origin story for the dinosaurs (something that has already occurred in several previous instalments). These types of changes in the timeline, known as “retcons” (retroactive reconstructions of history), have been a constant in the saga since Jurassic World (2015). Since Michael Crichton published the novel in 1990 and Spielberg turned it into a global phenomenon, the franchise has gone through reboots and sequels, with Jurassic World relaunching in 2015. Although Jurassic World Dominion was sold as the end of the saga in 2022, Universal surprised by announcing a new instalment in 2024. Now, with Jurassic World Rebirth, starring Scarlett Johansson and scheduled for release in July 2025, fans are wondering if there will be a real twist this time or just more of the same.

What does the trailer show?

According to the trailer, the plot will revolve around the discovery of a mysterious new island, where genetic experiments have been carried out on dinosaurs for years. This revelation has raised doubts among fans, as it is the umpteenth time that a hidden laboratory has been introduced without any previous reference in the saga.

The trailers also show a new hybrid dinosaur, the D. Rex, a laboratory-created creature that seems to follow the same formula as the Indominus Rex and the Indoraptor from the previous films. Is there anything new to offer or are they just recycling ideas?

And the contradictions?

Since its inception, the Jurassic World series has been criticized for upsetting the logic established in Jurassic Park. Each new film introduces elements that contradict what has already been told, and Jurassic World Rebirth seems to follow the same path…

For example, the character of John Hammond, the founder of Jurassic Park, never mentioned the existence of other islands with dinosaurs, and yet the saga has revealed multiple secret enclaves with dinosaur clones over the years. Where is the coherence?

What do we know about the cast?

Our beloved Scarlett Johansson will lead the cast as Zora Bennett, a scientist who investigates the origin of this new generation of dinosaurs. Alongside her, Mahershala Ali plays Duncan Kincaid, an ex-military man who gets caught up in the crisis unleashed by genetic experiments, but we can’t give any more spoilers about other confirmed actors, beyond the fact that this film will be led by Gareth Edwards, known after Rogue One (2016) and Godzilla (2014), perhaps his experience in film and special effects can bring a new approach to this saga that turns dark.

Let’s not fool ourselves, even though we are skeptical, we are crazy to go to the cinema to see this new installment.
