Thinking of a text editor is like thinking of Microsoft Office, right? We’re all familiar with the famous icon of the coloured sheet depending on the type of processor you need. Well, now, Microsoft has decided to change the name of its famous suite of tools and it will be called “Microsoft 365 Copilot”, but, not only has it changed its name, it is now a completely new concept and they want to change the way we use this tool, but many people have not liked the change of concept too much. Below we tell you what we know so far about this new era at Microsoft.
Why are they changing their name?
Microsoft wants the tools we have used for years to take notes, write stories and organize our finances to go beyond what we know today. They are marking their territory with technology, with a new tool called Copilot, a kind of virtual assistant that will use AI (artificial intelligence) to make it faster and easier for you to do your tasks, not only to write for you, but also so that you have a partner who gives you ideas, answers questions and solves your problems with a simple click.
Explain this Copilot thing to me
Okay, let’s get to it, Copilot is going to be your new digital best friend, an AI that will help you work in Word, Excel and PowerPoint. It won’t do the whole report for you, but it will advise you on the best tips to make sure everything is well structured, analyse your data and suggest changes. The most innovative thing about this tool is that it will learn how you work to adapt to your needs. It’s almost a technological bomb for those of us who spend many hours in front of the computer writing!
The best thing of all is that this tool will be available from the basic plan to those who subscribe to Copilot Pro. The changes continue and there is still an open sky of opportunities because not 100% of the information on this topic is known yet, but have you noticed that Microsoft has also changed its logo to match that of Copilot?
How will users take it?
Like any big change, opinions are divided. Some of us are very excited to try this new tool, because it promises more than a repentant ex-boyfriend, but others believe that Microsoft is going to leave aside the simplicity that made it so popular and fear that it could become something other than what they are used to.
In addition, many users are not happy that they have raised the cost of the basic subscription (Microsoft 365) for the first time in more than 13 years!!!! And the reason is key: the new Copilot functions that are also included in the basic package.
Is the change going beyond the name?
In addition to Copilot, Microsoft has added AI to all of its products, for example Edge (formerly Explorer) has now also changed its name to “Microsoft Edge: AI Browser”, and on its computers they have added a key that leads directly to Copilot. So, these changes are a statement of intent. AI is the future and they want to let their consumers know that.
We’ll have to wait a little longer to find out how this new tool will actually work, but we’re already looking forward to finding out what the first step is for Microsoft’s technological future!
