Talking about childhood is talking about Sesame Street, the legendary children’s series that accompanied many generations as we grew up. Even if you didn’t know it, Ernie, Bert and the others were still airing on HBO and PBS, until 2024, when with the shift to HBO MAX they decided to put this epic show from our childhood on hold. Of course, they couldn’t let this classic show die, so Netflix has taken over its continuation… but with some changes, so a new season is coming for our lifelong friends.

How did Sesame Street end up on Netflix?

Netflix was the first to take the step once it was known that HBO was ending its contract with Ernie and Elmo, so they decided to go all in. This series has helped several generations grow up, and it would’ve been a shame if it got lost among so many other entertainment programs. What would’ve happened to Cookie Monster then?
Not just the new stuff

That’s right, Netflix will take care of broadcasting all episodes of this show, since, having acquired all the rights, they can distribute previous seasons worldwide, and they intend to have them all up before the end of this year.
The particular welcome to Netflix

As expected, and as has almost become a tradition with these peculiar friends, Cookie Monster was in charge of making the official introductions. His “Om nom nom nom!” while biting the first letter of the word “Netflix” saying “N is for Netflix” was, without a doubt, the wink we grown-up kids were waiting for from Sesame Street.

We are excited to announce that all new Sesame Street episodes are coming to @netflix worldwide along with library episodes, and new episodes will also release the same day on @PBS Stations and @PBSKIDS platforms in the US, preserving a 50+ year relationship.

A new era

That’s right, according to what we’ve been able to find out, Sesame Workshop confirms that the new episodes will be more emotional and focused on empathy, but don’t worry, traditional segments like Cookie Monster’s Food Truck and Elmo’s World will return, with 11-minute stories that aim to transmit the values the show has always covered.

Netflix and PBS

This new combination will allow kids in the United States to watch it on public television, and thanks to Netflix, all 56 seasons of this show will be available globally.
So this partnership will make the show available to children all around the world, something never seen before.

And what about the content?

As we said a few paragraphs above, the content will be similar to what it has always been, just adapted to new generations. They want to create generations full of empathy in this world where, more and more, it seems like that’s getting harder…

So they’re coming back strong with the same show as always, but they’re not ruling out that, in the era of technology, there might be something more than just a screen. What will this new stage of Sesame Street bring us? All the rumours point to video games and other resources for our kids.

What is Sesame Street?

The show of a lifetime with puppets, but not just any show. For many, it was their first contact with television, and let’s not forget that the first time this program aired was in 1969! Imagine how many kids grew up watching Cookie Monster say “me want cookie!”, and how many must have imitated him at home… Educational and heartwarming, we grew up with Elmo making us laugh and with Ernie and Bert showing us that being different is no obstacle to being friends.

For years it was a refuge for many of us, a street that didn’t exist on a map but that we all visited every morning. Now that street is back in fashion in the Netflix neighbourhood! Ready to return to your childhood?
