A new recall has shaken the roads of the United States, this time it’s Nissan’s turn, which has issued a recall for more than 40,000 vehicles after confirming that, in fact, the rearview cameras of its Nissan Rogue and Nissan Infiniti QX80 models are not working correctly. It seems that this error is due to a software problem, but federal authorities have already warned through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) that these vehicles do not meet the basic safety requirements for rear visibility. We’ll tell you everything that is happening with Nissan and how to proceed if you own one of those affected vehicles.

What is the error?

The notice issued by the NHTSA explains that the rearview camera may show a blank screen when the driver shifts the car into reverse. As you know, this type of camera connects automatically when the driver begins the maneuver, but the reality is that this error represents a failure to comply with the federal visibility regulation (FMVSS 111).

What is FMVSS 111?

This regulation is responsible for regulating rear visibility in vehicles. It requires all new vehicles in the country to have a rearview camera that allows the driver to correctly see what is behind their vehicle. But the image must be perfectly visible in less than 2 seconds, with no delay or frozen frames. Precisely because of that, this recall is being issued, because it does not comply with the federal regulation and could end tragically for children and pets that pass behind the vehicles while they are maneuvering.

Which models are affected?

This recall affects Nissan Rogues manufactured between 2024 and 2025 and Infiniti QX80s from 2025. But be careful, because last October two different recalls were issued. The first affects more than 37,000 units of both vehicles. This first recall is the one we are talking about, which completely erases the image from the screen due to a software error.

The second recall affects 3,230 units of the Infiniti QX80, in which the “Around View Monitor” peripheral vision system shows a frozen or blank image.

So, they are two different recalls but, as you can see, both affected by the same issue.

What to do if you are a driver?

First, don’t panic, it’s a software error and they are already working on a solution. Nissan has started to send updates wirelessly, but if that update is not possible in your vehicle, you can take your vehicle to the dealership to get it fixed there.

How do I know if my car is affected?

Nissan has designated three tracking codes for this recall: R24B3, R24B4 and R24B5. Owners can check the official NHTSA site by entering the vehicle identification number (VIN) to confirm if their unit is part of the recall.

Of course, this recall reminds us that even the most established brands, like Nissan, have errors that can go unnoticed and put road safety at risk. However, there’s no need to get overwhelmed or scared. This type of recall is a reminder that brands are constantly testing their vehicles to improve the safety of our roads, and that innovation must go hand in hand with stricter controls!
