Ford is in the headlines… Again. One of the most iconic brands in the automotive world (and in our country) has issued a new alert affecting more than 600,000 vehicles. The reason is a fault in the fuel injectors of many models equipped with the 1.5-liter EcoBoost engine. It could cause fires under the hood… Scary.
This recall puts Ford in the spotlight once again. Is it normal for them to be facing so many recalls?
Which models are affected?
The models affected by this recall are the Ford Escape (years 2020–2022) and Bronco Sport (years 2021–2024), both with the three-cylinder engine we were talking about, which already had a bad track record of repairs… Several of the reported incidents happened in vehicles that had already received previous software updates as part of earlier recalls. What’s going on, Ford?!
For the moment, there have been eight reported incidents but no injuries, thank goodness. Still, this is a serious issue that shouldn’t be taken lightly.
Why has Ford issued this new recall?
Everything points to a problem with the XL3 high-pressure injector, manufactured by Dumarey Flowmotion Technologies in Italy. According to the NHTSA report, injectors with part numbers HX7G-9F597-BB and HX7G-9F597-BC tend to crack over time. That crack allows gasoline to leak and reach hot areas of the engine, raising the risk of a fire.
Models under review
The affected models include the 1.5L EcoBoost three-cylinder engine:
- Ford Escape: model years 2020, 2021 and 2022, built in the US.
- Ford Bronco Sport: model years 2021 to 2024, built in Mexico.
It’s important to note that versions with 2.0L engines or 2.5L hybrid engines are not part of this campaign, so you can relax.
What did they say?
Since there is not solution or clear technical fix for the moment, Ford will go with what it already knows: a software update for the engine that detects possible fuel leaks and manages temperature to prevent major issues. They did it in 2022, again in 2024, and once more in March 2025… but it hasn’t been enough. Still, while they work on a better fix, that’s what will be applied for now.
Heads up, drivers
Drivers, you will receive an informative letter between August 18 and 22, 2025, explaining the issue. But later, they’ll get another one with instructions for the official repair. If you want to take note, the official recall number is 25S76.
How to check if your car is affected?
They have set up a system (online, of course) where drivers can check if their vehicle is included in this recall using the VIN number as you may know. Given the scale of the recall and the safety implications, the company advises checking this information as soon as possible, so, let’s go.
What impact could this recall have for the brand?
This recall is not the only one. Only this year, Ford had already recalled 132,000 vehicles over trim pieces detaching while driving… Over 700,000 cars affected in just a few weeks, consumer trust is hanging by a thread! And it’s not just a matter of reputation: there are also millions of dollars at stake, and we still don’t know how this will affect the brand (probably there are not good news for them).
This world is fast and competitive. Safety must always be the priority for companies and buyers (specially for companies, don’t you think?), not just an option. A defect of this size is a danger on the roads for absolutely every user. Ford is risking more than just a few million dollars. It’s risking the lives of many drivers and, above all, their trust.
