If we had to choose just one appliance to survive the rest of our lives (not counting the fridge, of course), we are clear that the answer would sound in unison: the air fryer! And that is even though a few years ago, this appliance was something of a utopia – frying with air? Impossible! However, they have become something essential in our daily lives, not only because of how convenient it is to have just one appliance to clean, but because using them makes our diets healthier. In addition, the high prices of oils (both olive and sunflower) are making the population look for much cheaper alternatives, and that is where these air fryers appear. However, although we have become accustomed to seeing them in practically all kitchens, in recent months, there have been several models that have been withdrawn from the market due to technical faults that could endanger their users.

How does an airfryer work?

It has a super simple system to understand based on the circulation of hot air, it is basically like any other oven but at a higher speed, which makes the food cook with very little oil, and thanks to the flow of hot air, the resistance it has on top and a large fan that distributes the air through the basket, you get a meal with the same flavour and much less fat. It is a healthy alternative for those of us who love French fries but need to reduce our intake of fried foods.

What’s wrong with these air fryers?

Several problems have been reported, including overheating of cables, broken components, and the worst, risk of explosion and fire. So, after these reports, many manufacturers have been forced to recall thousands of units of their products. Don’t worry, we’ll detail all the important information below.

Recalled models

Pay close attention because if any of these models are taking up space in your kitchen, you could be at risk of a fire. This company has sold at least 280,000 units on the market, we are talking about the Insignia brand, and its recall has been carried out after many users reported overheating inside the appliance’s cables. What’s so bad about it? It could catch fire as soon as you take a second’s notice believing that your lunch is cooking as usual.

But that’s not all, Newair’s Magic Chef fryers also faced a recall of 11,750 units for similar problems, but in this case, many of the internal components broke during use and caused electric shocks…

You’re just trying to be healthy and you unwittingly put your entire kitchen at risk…

How can I tell if my air fryer is in the recall?

Pay attention, if you have an air fryer and you don’t know if your fryer may be unsafe, we leave you some tips to check it.

The first thing is to check the model and the manufacturer’s website in case there is a safety warning issued by consumer authorities.

Obviously, if you think that your appliance overheats too much or smells burning, stop using it immediately because your air fryer is probably burning inside, and practically the same if you hear strange noises, sparks or your fryer suddenly turns off.

Call technical service to have it checked, or check if it is under warranty to request an exchange.

What if my airfryer is part of this recall?

The easiest thing we are going to suggest is to contact the distributor (where you bought it) or the manufacturer itself. Most likely they will offer you a product exchange or a refund, but, and pay attention, remember that if the company does not respond for its damaged appliance you can file a complaint with the Consumer Office, so, if this happens (which we do not believe) do not hesitate to exercise your consumer rights.
