Another recall and this time it is Toyota and Hyundai’s turn, even though both brands seem to have nothing to do with each other… Well, 1.1 million vehicles (only in our country) will have to take a trip to the workshop because the seat belts do not work properly… panic!
As you know, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration takes everything very seriously (thank goodness) and does not want absolutely anything to compromise the safety of travelers, that is why it has issued this recall, being one of the most important of 2025. What is happening with the automotive industry?
Toyota recall
Being one of the most reliable brands on the market and one of the favorites of customers, they had to recall 591,377 units manufactured between 2023 and 2025. The affected models include Venza, RAV4 Prime, RAV4, GR Corolla, Crown, Lexus TX, LS, RX and Toyota Tacoma, Grand Highlander, Camry, RAV4 plug-in hybrid and 4Runner among others.
In these vehicles, the 12.3-inch instrument panel display shuts off suddenly, leaving the driver without knowing basic driving information such as the speed at which they are driving, brake alerts or tire pressure among others…
What is Toyota going to do?
Well, fix the failure, what else? The brand will notify owners starting in mid-November so that they can go to their dealerships to update the software system, of course, free of charge. At dealerships free software updates will be offered and, in some cases, replacement of the display in plug-in hybrids.
Problems in Toyota’s electric vehicles
It is not the first recall Toyota has carried out this year, it also recalled 95,000 electric vehicles (including bZ4X, Lexus RZ and Subaru Solterra) that were built on the same platform and whose defogger had stopped working.
Hyundai recall
Hyundai does not escape either. The company has recalled 568,580 Palisade SUVs because there is a defect in the seat belt buckles. In case of a crash, the buckle might not hold the passenger correctly and we already know what would happen in that case, we do not even want to think about it.
The recommendation of the brand is to fasten the belt with a quick and firm movement, and to make sure it is properly latched. That as a temporary measure until going to the workshop… At official dealerships the buckles will be inspected and replaced at no cost to users.
How to know if your car is affected
For both Toyota and Hyundai vehicles, you should receive the letter from the NHTSA, but if you want to skip that step, enter your vehicle’s VIN number in the official NHTSA portal.
The Toyota recall codes are 25TB08, 25TA08, 25LB05 and 25LA05, and Hyundai’s is 283.
The recent history of problems
Both brands had already had problems, especially Toyota with the e-TNGA platform we talked about earlier, one of the most notorious recalls this year (and there have been more than 100 from Ford…). Hyundai does not escape either, because it has been struggling for years with criticism over the problems that happened with the KIA Boys (everyone has a bad chapter…).
That said, the debate returns to the table, is technology not synonymous with quality? We will see how both brands respond to the recall of 1.1 million cars (because that is only in our country!), and it is that not even the biggest ones escape from going to the workshop.
