Today’s recall story is about… Toyota. Nearly half a million Toyota drivers may soon receive notices from the automaker after the company announced several major recalls affecting popular models like the Tundra, Tacoma, Sequoia, and Sienna.
The issues range from software glitches and broken axles to seat defects, all of which could increase the risk of accidents or injuries if not repaired. The company is now working to fix these problems free of charge, urging vehicle owners to check if their car is affected before hitting the road. So, let’s find out what happened in more detail.
First recall
On October 1, Toyota issued a compliance recall affecting about 394,000 vehicles in the United States. Let’s see which models were the affected ones:
- Toyota Tundra (2022–2025)
- Toyota Tundra Hybrid (2022–2025)
- Toyota Sequoia (2023–2025)
What’s the problem? There’s a fault in the 14-inch multimedia display software. In some vehicles, the screen might turn partially green, completely green, or go entirely black.
The company explained that if this happens while the driver is reversing, the driver might not be able to see what’s behind the vehicle, increasing the risk of hitting someone or something.
For this, Toyota dealers will update the multimedia software for free. and owners of affected vehicles will receive official notifications by the end of November 2025.
Second recall
On the same day, Toyota also announced another safety recall for about 6,000 Tacoma 4WD trucks from the 2025 model year. What was wrong with this model? Well, a part inside the front drive shaft joint might not have been made from the correct material.
This could cause the part to bend or break, leading to serious safety risks: the driver might lose control of the steering and for permanent 4×4 models, the truck could roll even when in “Park” if the electronic parking brake is not on — raising the risk of a crash.
The solution? Dealers will replace one or both affected parts free of charge and the company expects to notify owners by late November 2025.
Third Recall
On October 7, the company announced a third recall, this time affecting about 55,000 Sienna minivans from the 2025 model year. This time the problem is with the second-row seats, which are mounted on sliding rails. Toyota says that in some vehicles, the rails were not welded properly. So, If the seats are occupied during a high-speed crash, they could lose their strength, increasing the risk of injury.
For this issue, dealers will replace the seat rails with properly welded ones, free of charge and Toyota will send notifications to affected owners in early December 2025.
