Skyscrapers are being built in many cities of the U.S. and this will change the way in which these cities are seen. Some of these skyscrapers will become landmarks, and others will be places to live, work, or stay as a guest. By 2026, several of these skyscrapers will be still in process and others will be nearly finished. So, let’s learn more about these tall buildings, shall we?

New skyscrapers in the U.S.

According to the Council on Vertical Urbanism’s Skyscraper Center, there are at least ten important skyscrapers being built in the U.S. that will mark the future of cities. Most of these buildings are found in New York, and Miami, although there’s also another one in Chicago.

These buildings are very tall, but are also designed to stand out and change the city skyline.

The Torch

This is a skyscraper being built in New York and it will be a hotel with 52 floors. The construction started in 2022 and it’s expected to be finished in 2028.

The most special thing about this building is the top of it, where there will be a spire shaped like a torch. Inside this spire, visitors will be lifted up and then dropped 300 feet inside clear tubes.

What’s more, the building will also include an observation deck, where people can look out over the city, and a glass-bottom elevator that can travel nearly 1,000 feet in less than one minute.

Waldorf Astoria Hotel and Residences in Miami

In Miami, the Waldorf Astoria Hotel and Residences is being built. This is a skyscraper that will reach 1,041 feet high when it’s finished in 2028. With 98 floors, it will become the tallest residential building on the East Coast of the United States outside of New York.

The building is located at 300 Biscayne Boulevard. It will be both a hotel and a place where people live. When finished, it will be Miami’s first supertall skyscraper.

Miami is being transformed

Miami is one of the cities with the most skyscrapers in construction. Let’s see some examples:

  • Cipriani Residences is a residential building of 80 floors that started to be built in 2024. When it’s finished by 2028, it will reach 030 feet high. To achieve this, a $600 million loan was secured to build this tower.
  • Okan Tower is another tall building in Miami that will have 70 floors and it will reach 890 feet high. Its design is inspired in the shape of a tulip and it’s expected to be finished by 2026. How much did this cost? About $400 million.
  • The Residences at 1428 Brickell is a residential building that will reach 861 feet high and it will be finished by 2028, if everything goes as planned.
  • Baccarat Residences Miami will have 73 floors and it will be 835 feet high. It’s expected to be finished by 2026.
  • Mercedes-Benz Places will be a mixed building with homes, a hotel, and offices. It will be 64 floors tall, reach 773 feet, and is expected to be completed in 2027.
  • Santander Tower is an office building with 41 floors. When finished in 2027, it will reach 765 feet tall.

Chicago and New York

Chicago will also have a new important skyscraper located at 462 East North Water Street and its construction started in 2024. It will have 72 floors and it will be 851 feet high when finished in 2027.

In New York, the building located at 111 Washington Street will be a 64-floor residential skyscraper. It will reach 789 feet high and it’s believed it will be finished by 2026 (the construction started in 2023).

So…

As you can see, the construction of these tall buildings gives us a clue of how cities are evolving. Do you like cities full of these types of buildings?
