A new month means the Social Security payment round is back! And this September 10 comes loaded with news for beneficiaries, who are already millions around the country.
And yes, every time it is the 1st of each month, the monthly payments begin to be distributed again, just as specified in the official SSA calendar (or have you not realized yet that the payments are already scheduled?)
No, they are not extra payments, they are part of the regular SSA payment schedule, everything depends on the beneficiary’s date of birth or, in some cases, on whoever receives the state benefits.
And yes, they always do it in stages to ensure that the more than 70 million people who depend on these funds can access the payments correctly each month and not suffer any type of delay.
Who receives the check this Wednesday?
On September 10 it will be the turn of those born between the 1st and the 10th of any month, as always. For them, the payment will include retirement benefits, disability benefits (SSDI) and survivor benefits.
But do not worry if you do not receive the money today, it will depend on your date of birth, and you will receive the money on the following days:
- September 17 will be for those born between the 11th and the 20th.
- September 24 will be for those born between the 21st and the 31st.
And the rest?
Not all beneficiaries receive their money on Wednesday. Those who started collecting before May 1997 continue with the previous calendar, so these dates do not apply to them, they will have received the money on the 3rd and so on each month.
Added to this group are the Supplemental Security Income (SSI) beneficiaries, who usually receive the payment on the 1st. Since this year September 1 fell on a federal holiday, the money was advanced to Friday, August 29, but it did arrive!
How much money is paid on average
The amount of the check depends on the type of benefit. According to the SSA, in 2025 the average payment for retirees amounts to $2,006.69 per month.
In the case of disabled workers, the average is $1,582.38, while survivor pension beneficiaries receive about $1,574.28. For those who receive SSI, the average is $716.09 per month.
What should you know?
Payments are made in stages, that allows the SSA to ensure that everyone receives their payment on the day it corresponds, that is why it is important that you know which Wednesday is yours.
Double beneficiaries
More than 2.5 million people receive both SSI and Social Security. In these cases, SSI is paid on the 1st (or the nearest business date) and Social Security on the 3rd, following the previous rules.
What do they recommend?
The SSA recommends opting for direct deposit into bank accounts or authorized debit cards, since it is the safest and fastest method to receive the money, that way it is not lost or misplaced!
Next September 10, Social Security will once again meet its appointment with millions of beneficiaries who depend on these funds to cover their monthly expenses, even though the amount varies in each case, it is the main source of income for a large part of retirees, disabled people and families who have lost a worker, a true lifeline for many of our neighbors!
