Overdue payments? Here are the steps the Social Security Administration recommends to get what you owe - before it's too late

Confirmed—the California mine that produces 45,000 tons of “rare earths” and gives the US technological independence

IRS 2026—new tax brackets, higher standard deduction, and greater benefits for families and workers

That’s the warning from D’Andre Clayton—delaying Social Security collection until age 70 is a risk few can afford to take, given actual life expectancy

2025 has just arrived and we all have many expectations about what the year will bring with it! After the December holidays and all the expenses we have had to face this Christmas, receiving the first payments of the year is going to be a relief for many users. And, as we already know, millions of Americans depend on Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI), so we are going to give you a summary of what you need to know and the most important data to face this 2025 with enthusiasm and with a clear calendar to write down the most important dates!

What are the key dates for this month of January?

As you may already know, SSDI issues its payments each month in a staggered manner throughout the month, starting on the second Wednesday of the month and ending on the fourth. Payments for January are as follows:

  1. On January 8, beneficiaries born between the 1st and 10th of each month will receive their payment
  2. On January 15, beneficiaries born between the 11th and 20th of each month will receive their payment
  3. On January 22, beneficiaries born between the 21st and 21st of each month will receive their payment

It should be noted that the beneficiary’s year of birth is not taken into account here, but rather their day. And that, if in addition to SSDI you receive SSI, your payment for the month of January will have been advanced to December 31, 2024 because the first day of the year is a national holiday.

What about the COLA for this year?

The COLA (Cost of Adjustment Life) has been set at 2.5% this year because we are finally beating inflation. This adjustment is an addition that is added to each payment made by Social Security, so that no beneficiary notices that the prices are more expensive (so that they do not lose purchasing power in other words).

This adjustment is based on the CPI-W, the prices of basic products and goods in the third quarter of the previous year with those of this year, depending on how prices have moved (whether they have risen or fallen) that small percentage is established that is added to the payments. For this year it has been set at 2.5%, but in previous years it was much higher (for example, 8.3% in 2023). This means that we are finally managing to stabilize the economy.

And no, it does not mean that you will be given less money since your base SSA salary will remain intact, only this extra will be modified, but they will never take money away from you!

What do I do if I don’t receive my payment?

If you don’t see the deposit in your account on the due date, the SSA recommends the following three things:

  1. Confirm with your bank that there are no processing problems.
  2. Wait at least three business days before filing a claim with the SSA.
  3. Contact your local Social Security Office or visit the official SSA website: www.ssa.gov.

Now that you have the most important tips about SSDI, mark the dates on your calendar to be aware and not miss any payments! Start 2025 by fulfilling your purpose of getting organized!
