Something big is happening with Target in October! The company is going further with its expansion strategy by opening 7 new stores in different states of the United States. These openings are part of a long-term plan of the company that aims to add more than 300 new stores in the next 10 years, with larger formats, expanded grocery offerings, and services designed for speed and convenience. This way the company reinforces its role as a place to shop and as a hub for same-day fulfillment. So, let’s find out more about Target’s strategy.
Target expansion
The new stores will open in 7 states:
- Arizona: Queen Creek (Gantzel and Combs)
- California: Fresno (Fancher Creek)
- Florida: Wesley Chapel (Grove)
- Nebraska: Grand Island
- South Carolina: Indian Land
- Texas: Stafford (Kirkwood Road)
- Virginia: South Riding
Five of these locations will have a new Target store on October 12, while the other 2 will have them on October 19. Most of them will be larger than the average size of Target stores (about 125,000 square feet), showing the company’s strategy of focusing on larger formats that combine physical purchases with fulfillment services.
Stores as hubs
Target applies the ‘’stores as hubs’’ model, which means the new stores will no longer be places to shop, but also fulfillment centers for same-day services. Customers could use both options as Drive Up, Order Pickup and same-day delivery through Target Circle 360.
Currently, most of Target’s online orders are directly managed from the stores, and these new ones will enhance this capacity.
What will the new Target stores offer?
Each of the 7 stores will offer improved services and spaces like:
- Larger grocery sections, with more fresh produce, meat, and dairy offerings. For example, the Queen Creek location in Arizona will feature about 16,000 square feet dedicated to fresh food.
- Pharmacy and café services in some stores, such as Indian Land in South Carolina.
- Special brand sections inside the store, so shoppers can find different product categories all in one place.
- Services that prepare and deliver orders the same day, making shopping faster and more convenient.
Places for the openings
- Arizona (Queen Creek, Gantzel and Combs): Opening October 12, with expanded fresh food and a large footprint.
- Florida (Wesley Chapel Grove): Also opening October 12, the third Florida location this year, including expanded produce and large-format amenities.
- Nebraska (Grand Island): First store in Grand Island, opening October 12, with an emphasis on groceries and foodservice.
- South Carolina (Indian Land): Opening October 12, designed as a large-format store with pharmacy and café services.
- Virginia (South Riding, Sterling): Scheduled for October 12, this location will feature groceries and shop-in-shop experiences.
- California (Fresno Fancher Creek): Opening October 19, this large-format store will include expanded grocery space and same-day services.
- Texas (Stafford Kirkwood Road): Also opening October 19, expanding Target’s footprint in Texas with another large-format store.
Impact on the community and employment
Each Target new store creates local employment. The company has pointed out that the initial wages vary depending on the position and the location, but all the openings represent job opportunities. What’s more, Target puts its faith in local hiring, partnerships with community organizations, and ongoing investment in supply-chain capacity.
These actions fit with the company’s long-term plan: not only opening new stores, but also remodeling the existing ones, expand its digital fulfillment capacity, and strengthen its Target Circle membership program.
A long-term vision
Target’s CEO Brian Cornell says the company is focused on steady, long-term growth. By supporting its employees, improving stores, and expanding digital services, Target has built a strong base that works in all kinds of conditions.
The new stores opening in October 2025 are more than just extra locations. They’re part of a bigger plan to reach more shoppers, connect with local communities, and make shopping easier both in person and online.
