We already know that technology isn’t perfect, but normally, when we choose a car to be our workhorse, we expect it to meet the safety promises (at the very least). That’s why, when a company recalls a model, we always end up feeling a little cheated. This is what has happened to Tesla in the United States. Although this is a company super known for revolutionizing the automotive industry, a recent failure has put the spotlight back on electric vehicles. What does this mean for Tesla? We’ll tell you below.

Who is Tesla?

Founded in 2003, it is presented as one of the most iconic companies in modern industry, led since 2004 by the famous billionaire Elon Musk, it has positioned itself as the leading company in the development of electric cars, because they not only manufacture vehicles, but also develop concepts and technologies related to sustainable energy. Their cars have never been left behind, and have combined luxury with innovation and efficiency.

A technical problem to welcome 2025

And that is, Tesla has announced that it is recalling 239,000 vehicles in the United States because they have found a fault in the rear camera. This fault is apparently caused by a short circuit in the car’s computer board, and this causes the camera to not work as it should when the vehicle is turned on.

Which vehicles are being recalled?

The recall affects the Model 3, Model S and Model X models (produced recently). Tesla assures that the problem was detected on December 16 and they have implemented a software update for the vehicles to ensure the safety of their customers (although no accidents, injuries or deaths have been reported).

An ongoing investigation:

In addition to this problem, which has caused great concern among users, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has opened another parallel investigation into 2.5 million Tesla vehicles for accidents that could be related to self-driving cars… And this would add to the 887 warranty requests that the company has already received.

What is the self-driving function?

The so-called Autopilot has been a set of driver assistance technologies designed to improve the comfort of drivers, but, take care! It is not an autonomous system, but is described as a Level 2 system (which means it needs active supervision by the driver). In this case, what our Tesla can do is stay in the lane (using sensors and radars), automatically control the vehicle’s speeds and even automatic emergency braking, among other features.

This system has been the subject of criticism because many drivers have taken that “auto” literally and believe that the vehicle travells alone, making irresponsible use of this technology.

What has Tesla done?

They have tried to react as quickly as possible, as we have said, through a software update. The automotive giant hopes that these changes will be enough to ensure that users of its vehicles do not run any kind of risk and can continue to maintain the trust of their customers.

This type of incident always makes us cringe because of the “what could have happened” questions, but it reminds us that companies are very active and take good care of us and are always keeping an eye on their creations through quality controls. The world continues to innovate and companies have to pay close attention to the processes.
