Oh no, Tesla is back in the headlines after the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) confirmed that the company has recalled 13,000 electric vehicles. The reason is that there are failures causing the battery to lose power suddenly…

Imagine losing propulsion in the middle of driving, and it affects the Model Y and Model 3 manufactured between March and August 2025. Fortunately, no serious incidents have been reported.

What exactly is happening

Your Tesla may have faults in the battery connection system, not all, of course, but your battery could shut down while on the road.

Tesla has acknowledged that there is a serious problem (understandably) and has assured users that it will replace the parts free of charge in all affected vehicles.

Owners will receive a notification by email or through the Tesla app in the coming weeks, indicating when and where they can have the repair done, so stay calm.

Which models are affected

As mentioned, we’re talking about the Model Y and Model 3. In total, 8,000 units of the first and approximately 5,000 of the second.

So far, Tesla has received 36 warranty claims and 26 technical reports related to this issue, but fortunately, none have resulted in accidents.

Another blow for Tesla

Tesla is going through a pretty rough year. Although Elon Musk’s political decisions have made the company lose much of its popularity, even worse is that this year alone it has had to issue more than half a dozen recalls, including problems with the Cybertruck (its flagship model).

And not only that, there is still an open investigation into the 2021 Model Y after several reports that the automatic door handles are not working.

With all this, it’s understandable that the community believes Tesla is prioritizing innovation over quality…

Warnings

Although no accidents have been recorded, safety experts believe it’s a serious enough issue to make the news. Imagine driving your car down the highway at high speed and suddenly the car decides it doesn’t want to move anymore…

What to do if you have one of the affected models

If you have a Model 3 or Model Y manufactured between March and August 2025, you will receive an official notification to visit an authorized service center to fix it. The replacement of the battery connection module will be free, and according to Tesla, the process should be quick.

Meanwhile, the NHTSA recommends avoiding long trips and conditions of high energy demand, such as driving in extreme heat or with the battery near empty.

A complicated balance

Tesla’s production pace sometimes seems to outpace its quality control. It launches updates every few weeks, new models almost nonstop, and of course, that leaves little room for error… even though the errors keep happening.

The challenge for Musk and his team is not only to keep innovating but to do so without making users question whether their car is as reliable as it is futuristic.

And no, this recall doesn’t just affect Tesla, it affects the whole industry. We need vehicles that work and are safe for everyone!
