Toyota is coming out with a new engine, the blue engine. No, it doesn’t have anything to do with color but with the idea of being environmentally friendly. The bluest engine we know and is out in the market to be used is the electric one, although Toyota is showing us a totally new sustainable way of driving. Hydrogen is the element chosen by the company to become one with low pollution numbers. Don’t worry, if you own a petrol or diesel car, you can still use it because the hydrogen ones are just being developed.

Do you know anything about Toyota?

Kiichiro Toyoda was the son of the owner and inventor of a company that mechanically weaved fabrics, but around 1930 he saw a business opportunity in cars. So, he decided to found Toyota in 1937 and the Japanese manufacturing of cars started.

The company was beginning to be successful by the 60s or 70s and they sold cars to the United States and Europe, where their cars became so popular.

Another company joining the cause

Toyota was a leading company when it came to hybrid cars, a combination of electric and petrol engines. However, the company is now investing in a more sustainable energy to make their cars, by manufacturing an engine that doesn’t pollute that works with hydrogen.

Making efficient and safe cars with blue engines is the new key value for Toyota, which they are now working on to make them saleable for everybody.

Wait, are they painting the engines in blue?

Even though it would be a cool decision, it has nothing to do with appearances but with the environment. The blue color is related to calmness, cleanness and the nature element of water, so Toyota decide to go with blue to associate their engine with a cleaner and environmentally friendly energy.

Why is this new hydrogen engine way better than previous ones? Well, it lasts longer compared with others, it is much more efficient, there is no need for regular maintenance and it can be used in other vehicles than cars. What a wonderful initiative from a big company, isn’t it?

The star element: hydrogen

If you weren’t good at science at school, you will still understand this mechanism. So, let’s go in detail about it!

First and foremost, we need to know what hydrogen is to fully get the rest of the process. This element is a light gas that comes from water which mixes with oxygen inside a fuel cell (a part of the car where all the magic happens) and due to the chemical reaction the electricity that is produced, is the one that makes the engine work.

Toyota does believe the hydrogen engine is the solution for the future of cars and the environment. This chemical element is everywhere and can be produced in a very clean way. What’s more, cars will charge within 5 minutes so much faster than electric cars. How amazing is this development?

Toyota and the future of driving

There is a tendency of trying to be the most environmentally friendly company in the world, because they know people are worried about this issue. So, the more investments of clean energy they make, the more attention they will get.

Other companies like Tesla, are going for electric cars which are more familiar for us, but Toyota is coming ahead of time with this hydrogen engine. Once this mechanism is more used on the roads, petrol, diesel, hybrid and electric cars will be old-fashioned and harmful for the environment.

It is great that huge companies are investing on natural energies to help make earth a healthier planet, but still doing what they best know, making cars. Can you picture yourself driving these types of cars?
