Toyota is in troubles and they have been forced to recall 126,000 vehicles due to engine problems. Tundra, Lexus LX and Lexus GX are being pulled out from the market because the engine of those vehicles shuts off suddenly, and it has happened several times (can you imagine how scary it must be to be on the highway and your vehicle decides it does not want to move anymore????)

Well, everything has been placed in the hands of the NHTSA to solve the problem as soon as possible. A company of Toyota’s size should not have this kind of issues… And we already know that the sooner they look for solutions in these kinds of problems, the less the brand loses.

Manufacturing problems

According to the official information, the V35A engines installed in the affected models could contain “machining debris”, metallic residue or particles not removed during the manufacturing of the vehicles, impurities. These can contaminate the inside of the engine and cause failures that lead to the total shutdown of the vehicle.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has warned that this failure can pose a real accident risk (obviously), especially in situations of high speed or heavy traffic.

Which models are affected?

For now, the recall only affects U.S. vehicles, and they are the following:

Toyota (2022–2024)

  • Tundra (with V35A engine)

Lexus (2022–2024)

  • Lexus LX
  • Lexus GX (2024)

According to Toyota, no serious injuries have been reported so far, but the company acknowledges that the risk is serious and must be addressed as soon as possible.

Free solution

Of course, as soon as they learned of the failure they started working to fix it, and it will not cost the customer a single dollar. The owners of these vehicles will receive a notice to take their vehicle to the dealership and it will be completely free.

It is estimated that letters will begin arriving starting December 22,

And afterward, they will also send a second notification confirming when they can go in for the repair.

Not Toyota’s year…

Back in September they had another big issue due to a failure in the entertainment systems that affected several Lexus models. Yes, we know it is not related to the current recall, but it is unusual for Toyota, kings of user reliability, to have to issue two massive recall notices in a single year…

It almost seems like suddenly all companies have forgotten that the main point of vehicles is not luxury, but safety on the road…

What do I do as a driver?

As easy as checking if your vehicle is on the recall list and paying attention to official notification channels.

And of course, if you hear strange noises, if your vehicle loses power, contact Toyota or Lexus immediately before using the vehicle for long trips.

Transparency and commitment

Nothing less is asked, either. Toyota is not one of those who ignore failures in their vehicles (as other brands might do, and we do not want to look at Kia or Tesla…), and they know that most of their reputation is due to the safety of their cars and the trust of their customers. It does not suit them to slip up now on this, and they need to guarantee that their priority is always the safety of the occupants of their vehicles.

To ensure that, the 126,000 vehicles will have to go through the dealership to verify that everything is alright!
