It’s official—the U.S. government has issued a nationwide recall of products at Costco and Sam’s Club, and here’s what you should do if you bought them

Toyota has to recall more than 440,000 vehicles nationwide after detecting several safety issues in some of its hybrid models. We know this isn’t typical for Toyota since it’s one of the most reliable brands on the market, but when it does have a recall, it’s usually a big one.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the issues could increase the risk of an accident if not corrected in time, although there have been no reports of crashes or injuries.

Problems with the Sienna Hybrid

There are 54,631 units of the 2025 Sienna Hybrid being recalled due to a problem with the welds on the second-row seat rails.

Apparently, some units left the factory with an improperly applied joint, which could cause the seat to come loose in the event of an accident and be ejected.

Toyota detected the defect during an internal inspection and will notify owners starting November 21. The company will replace the seat rails free of charge for all affected vehicles.

The issue with the Tundra and Sequoia

The second recall includes approximately 393,838 vehicles from the Tundra, Tundra Hybrid (2022–2025 models), and Sequoia Hybrid (2023–2025).

Here, the problem is a software error that may cause the rearview camera to fail to display an image when reversing. Besides being dangerous, this defect violates federal regulations requiring all backup cameras to function properly in less than two seconds.

Toyota is aware of the issue and will send a free software update to correct it, with notifications expected to arrive before November 16, 2025.

No accidents

Toyota states that no incidents have been reported so far, but these issues add to a series of recalls the brand has faced in recent months. Just this year, it already had to inspect more than 40,000 Camry Hybrid units and several Lexus NX and RX models due to seat belt malfunctions.

Toyota has always been synonymous with reliability, but this year has been more complicated for the brand, which will now have to work to maintain its reputation at the top of the automotive world.

How to know if your Toyota is affected

You can check your vehicle’s VIN on Toyota’s official website or the NHTSA database, or call 1-800-331-4331 to contact Toyota’s customer service.

Repairs are completely free and must be done at authorized or official dealerships.

What Toyota will do to fix it

  • Sienna Hybrid: replacement of seat rails with new parts and verified welds.
  • Tundra and Sequoia Hybrid: software update to restore proper rear camera functionality.
  • Additionally, Toyota will send follow-up letters in December to confirm the availability of the solutions.

A tough year for Toyota

Between supply chain delays, competition from Tesla and BYD, and pressure to expand its hybrid lineup, Toyota is struggling to innovate without losing its reputation for reliability.

Even so, it remains the global leader in hybrid sales, holding over 35% of the global market, so we’ll take this as just a small blemish on its otherwise impeccable record.

Besides, the speed with which it’s working to return to normal is admirable, they prefer to prevent rather than regret!
