A new lawsuit will make Walmart pay up to $53,250 to each user after data linked to Walmart’s mobile services was leaked! That’s right, but hurry because the deadline to file a claim is today!!!

Those of you who have used plans offered by TracFone, like Walmart Family Mobile, Straight Talk, Simple Mobile and others, this is your news and this might be the lawsuit that gets you a big chunk of money. Interested? Then keep reading!

The incident exposed personal data in December 2021, but it has now ended with a multimillion-dollar settlement that includes payments for ordinary losses, serious fraud cases and even free credit monitoring for three years!

Data theft

It all started in December 2021, when a security breach was detected at TracFone, a company that provides mobile services under the brands we mentioned above. And of course, the company didn’t admit responsibility (why would they take responsibility for something they’re responsible for) but like all of them, they ended up accepting a legal settlement to avoid continuing the litigation.

That’s what we care about, of course, a settlement that includes a pretty substantial financial compensation, meant to cover everything from small financial losses to fraud or identity theft cases.

Who can file a claim and how much can they receive?

If you are a current customer or were a user of one of the mentioned services around the time of the incident, you might qualify to receive money.

There are two types of payments:

  • Ordinary losses: up to $3,250 to cover things like bank fees, credit problems or the time you had to spend making calls and dealing with paperwork to fix the mess.
  • Extraordinary losses: up to $50,000 if you suffered identity theft, fraud or if the leak made you lose an important business opportunity.

Yes, you read that right: in total, the payment can reach up to $53,250 per person in the most serious cases. But of course, you need proof.

And is there anything else besides the money?

Yes. The settlement includes several extra benefits for those affected:

  • Three years of free credit monitoring
  • Identity theft insurance up to one million dollars
  • Assistance to recover your identity, in case you end up in one of those unpleasant situations

Not a small thing, especially if you’re worried that your data might be used later, so go claim what’s yours!

What do you need to file a claim?

It’s not enough to have been a customer or say “it happened to me”, you have to prove it (there’s a lot of money at stake, it makes sense). You’ll have to present documentation that shows what losses you suffered because of this leak (invoices, bank statements, emails, receipts… whatever backs up your case):

And don’t forget that you have until August 7 to send your form,  after that date, there will be no more claims. It’s also estimated that the first responses will start coming on September 16.

Where can I file a claim?

Everything is done online (wake up, it’s 2025!!), they have launched an official portal for you to fill out the form, upload your evidence and verify all your information. Hurry because you’re running out of time!!

And if I don’t have proof?

No proof… no money. It’s that simple. But you can still sign up to receive the protection and identity monitoring services included in the settlement, and yes, you also have the same application deadline, so even if it’s not money, hurry up because you’ll lose that too!

The opportunity is there, and it’s not every day we’re this close to receiving this kind of compensation (especially for something as everyday as a mobile service), so hurry up, fill out the form and submit it with your proof. Time is money, literally!
