One of those films that doesn’t just entertain but moves you to another time. We are talking of course about the Western Hostile Territory, a film with a soul rooted in a historical truth that is not well known by many people, so, if you are passionate about cinema and you are looking for something that not only entertains you but also helps you learn from it, we are going to tell you more about this!
What is a Western?
This is the name given to the film genre that is set in the Old West of the United States (generally set in the 19th century). Yes, the typical films about men who engage in gun duels in the Wild West, Native Americans, sheriffs and cowboys. Sounds familiar now, right?
What about Hostile Territory?
Normally, films based on real events tend to be more shocking, and that is what happens with this film, which is one of the few that historically adheres to a real event (and there are thousands of western films with duels at dawn and desert landscapes). But this one in particular stands out for the historical accuracy to which it refers.
A post-war drama.
This film released in 2022, directed by and starring Brian Presley, transports the viewer to a few days after the American Civil War. Jack Calgrove, a former soldier, returns home to discover that his children have been sent to the orphans after their mother died. Desperate to reunite with them, this protagonist embarks on a dangerous journey through the hostile territory of the American West. If you liked what you read, you’ll like the trailer for this movie even more.
What is the “Orphan Train”?
The plot is largely fiction, but it is true that there was an orphan train that operated between 1854 and 1929 in the United States. The purpose of this program was to transport children from cities in the east to foster homes located on the opposite side of the country (the west), trying to ensure that these children could grow up in the best conditions possible. However, this same program was noted for not having adequate supervision, and the lack of regulation led to many children being exploited and subjected to forced labour in the fields. In addition, the creators and organizers of this train claimed that the children who got on board had no relatives or that they had been abused and abandoned, but this was not always the case, as it has been proven over the years that many of the children forced to get on this train were children of poor or migrant families…
A film that went unnoticed
As we said, this film did not attract much attention when it was released, but now it has managed to capture the attention of viewers on the streaming platform Amazon Prime Video, where some praise the film and others have questioned the historical accuracy of some of the events that occur in the film.
So, if you are tired of the same old movies, these 90 minutes of film will not leave you indifferent, a bit of action, a bit of drama and you have a perfect movie session at home. If you are a fan of stories from the Old West, do not hesitate to give a chance to this gem that has remained “hidden” until today.
