They say good things take time… And a lot, just ask Micherre Fox, who spent two years digging in the ground looking for a diamond. Yes, yes, one of those diamonds you can imagine but probably never see. Well in the end she found it, at 31 years old, she came across a 2.4-carat diamond right in the Crater of Diamonds (Arkansas).
And watch out because it is not only one of the most important finds of the year in that park, it is also the one that will shape the ring with which she is going to get engaged!!! We love these stories, she cried, laughed and said it was one of the most exciting moments of her life. We are not surprised!
A park where you can find diamonds
If you did not know the Crater of Diamonds State Park, write down the name. It is a state park in Pike County, and it is unique in the world: you pay your entrance and you can dig freely to see if you find something. But careful, it is not a tourist attraction: this year there are already 366 recorded finds, and eleven of them exceed one carat! Fox’s case is not beginner’s luck, far from it, her story went viral because of the context and how it all comes together: patience, love and a good dose of persistence (especially the latter).
A promise that depended on a stone
Micherre had been digging in the dirt for years, literally. And she had made a pact with her partner: there would be no proposal until she found the perfect stone with her own hands (not the moment to say “wake up, bestie!”). And so, scraping and looking between rocks during her days off, even in her vacation month after finishing a postgraduate, she ended up finding it. Perseverance pays off, as my grandmother would say!
When she arrived at the park’s identification center and they confirmed that yes, it was a real diamond, she did not hesitate: she named it “Fox-Ballou”, combining her last name and her partner’s. Because beyond the shine, the value or the weight, what this story has is symbolism, and a lot of desire to spend life with someone.
Two years of pick and shovel
Micherre did not make a one-time visit. She did not go to see if she was lucky and go home. She had been going back to the park for two years whenever she could. And she did not rule out traveling the world if necessary. But in the end, the diamond was closer than she thought, practically right under her nose! And yes, also more buried.
Is this case a reminder that there are people who go after what they want, no matter the time or the effort? Yes, so take this article as a sign.
It is not just a jewel: it is what it represents
The diamond may be worth thousands of euros, but what it represents is another story. Because this stone was not found in a store nor did it come with a warranty, it was pulled from the ground with effort and patience. And now it will become a ring that symbolizes all that: a shared story, the wait, the agreement… and the yes that is to come.
It is a “we did it”.
Arkansas and its modern diamond fever
Micherre’s case is not an isolated one, but it is a special one. Crater of Diamonds has become a kind of sanctuary for gem seekers. People who go with the hope of finding something. And the truth is that some manage to, that is why the park continues to attract tourists from everywhere: because here you can go back home with a story that no one would believe if it were not because you can show it in your hand.
Wedding bells are ringing!
The story of Micherre Fox is special, it is patience, fulfilling a promise and not giving up no matter how complicated it is to reach the goal. The diamond is just the perfect excuse to remember that there are dreams that come true when you get your hands dirty and never stop trying. And if on top of that they end up in the shape of a ring, even better, congratulations, Micherre!
