Flintstones car

Everyone has dreamt of owning an iconic car, and sometimes that car only exists in a movie or TV show. And while many options may come to mind, the Bat Mobile, the GT-R R34 form 2fast2furious or the Shelby GT500 from Gone in 60 Seconds (Eleanor), one that may not have crossed the minds of many movie fans is the iconic Flintstones family car.

The Flintstones TV show created by Hanna-Barbera featured many modern age appliance with a stone age twist that spurred our imagination, and seeing them come to life in the live action movie was an experience that fans were not able to easily forget. Many of us thought about how Fred and Barney powered the car with their feet and wondered how it would be to live in such a place.

Well, if you were one of those people, we have super good news for you, the Canopysaurus Flintmobile can now be yours and it is for sale on Bring a Trailer, part of Hearst Autos.

Why the Flintstones car is so iconic

The original series was released in 1960 and lasted 6 seasons. Many reboots, spinoffs and two live action movies later, the stories of neighbors Fred and Barney, and their long-suffering wives Wilma and Betty and the prehistoric setting are burned on our collective memories spanning multiple generations.

It always represented an idealized version of suburbia and followed a sitcom model, popular at the time, and managed to keep the plots both interesting and family friendly, making it a suitable show for audiences of every age.

The Canopysaurus Flintmobile was part of that fantasy, taking Fred and Barney to work every day and their families in multiple adventures, mirroring the experience of families everywhere. And now it can be a small part of yours.

This tribute car that some lucky individual can now own is propelled by six eight-volt batteries and a rear-mounted electric drive unit instead of by the feet of drivers. It also features a “YABADO” license plate as a shoutout to Fred’s signature catchphrase. There is also one small catch, as the design could never be made road legal, so the car is technically a golf cart and will not be able to be driven outside of private property.

This carefully constructed replica is also an ode to the showbiz origins of the car. While the original is meant to be constructed out of wood and stone, materials that would have been available at the time, the new and improved version only appears to feature them. These materials would have been too heavy and no battery would have been able to move stone wheels, but the designers have done a great job in mimicking both the original construction and the materials to ensure that no one would notice that you are not rolling in a stone age vehicle.

The car is also suitable to transport four passengers, as, just like the original and the standard golf cart, it features two rows of comfortable seats, so if you are the lucky owner, you will be able to share the experience with friends and other golf buddies you encounter along the way.

The top speed of the car is 9 mph, which is a lot by prehistoric time measurements, slow by today’s standards, and perfectly adequate as a way to travel within a private estate or golf course, so you will be able to keep up with the rest of the golfers during tee time. As long as you remember that it is not road legal and you can get in serious trouble if you attempt to drive it in the open road, this engineering oddity can be the perfect addition to any collection.
